Seattle. Pot is now officially the lowest priority thanks to I-75, passed by a 58% voting majority in 2003. Adults are allowed to carry small amounts (up to 40 grams) and not be prosecuted for carrying it. That means a cop can't stop and search you, find your pot, then prosecute you. However, if you're arrested with pot then you will be charged with possession as well as whatever crime you may have committed. When the initiative was first passed, the Seattle city DA's office sent out a press release saying that people who planned on practicing civil disobedience ought to leave the pot at home.

The measure mandated that arrests of adult marijuana users would become the lowest priority for law enforcement agencies in the city all but decriminalizing pot smoking in Seattle...and has become the model for subsequent similar measures in Oakland, Denver, and Columbia, Missouri.

Add in Seattle's innovative drug court, which allows people convicted of drug crimes to choose treatment over incarceration, and the King County Bar Association's new and groundbreaking blueprint for drug-law reform in Washington State, and this city emerges as something of a demonstration project on drug reform for the rest of the country.

Marijuana-related case filings by the city attorney's office have dropped sharply since I-75 took effect, from 178 filings in 2003, the year the initiative passed, to 59 filings in 2004. That's a 67 percent reduction in arrests, prosecutions, and jail sentences connected to marijuana use—and a similarly large reduction in the angst felt by local dope smokers, the lives altered by jail time for smoking some pot, and the taxpayer money spent sending stoners through the legal system. (As of this November the number of marijuana-related filings by Carr's office was set to decline again in 2005, with only 35 filings reported in the first 11 months of this year.)

To cut to the chase, it's still illegal, but you have to be flaunting your shit to get caught. I've had friends that have been caught with large enough amounts to warrant arrest (smoking a j in public, being idiots as well), and the only course of action taken against them was nabbing one guy's sack of weed. Seattle is pretty much as pot friendly as it gets...except for maybe in Humboldt County and Denver.

edit: Forgot to add, there's a bill in the WA house of reps (HB 1177) which would reclassify possession of 40 grams from a misdemeanor to a class II civil infraction. I've been following the developments of this, since a bunch of clubs and shit on campus are rallying behind it, and apparently the state leg. office has received over 15,000 letters and yet it's probably going to never see committee. The current state legislators don't want this to happen, so they're quietly killing it. If that happens, the groups from our school have already organized with Evergreen college (hella hippy school) and UW to protest in front of the capitol building. Then I'd have to drive to Olympia (6 fucking hours from here) just to stand in the cold and interview protesters who would all rather be smoking anyway.

Much better weed grown here in the States/Canada/Mexico vs. Netherlands. I will give the Hash category to the Netherlands and much of Europe, but as far as weed...damn stuff varies so much depenidng on soil, altitude, length of growing season, particular seeds. Not talking about that indoor hydro chemical grown crap; I am talking about the outdoor grown REAL bud.

New Mexico & AZ grown high altitude, VT, NH and Maine grown specialties. of course you have the California grown varieties. The PA grown is not all that bad either...was amazed at some of the Northern Lights, Bubble Gum and AK47 that made it through in the past fall harvest.

I do miss real Thai Bud and real Kona Bud!!!!! Have not seen that since the mid-late 80's

And 40 grams isn't a small amount of weed anyways, that is almost one and a half ounces. Just heard phelps got suspended for awhile from USA swimming association. Why they all hating so bad man its not like the guy was smoken crack rock in the middle of the olympics.
