  • Book Recommendations

I'm looking for book recommendations, both fiction and non-fiction. Not just any book recommendations though, list your top 5 books in the past, let's say 2-3 years, and then your top 5 favorite books of all times.

I'd like to see vykromond's, kolar, jeenyuss, ph, paulo, 404, Jason, Jerome, troll king, facetious, concreteschlyrd, and epinephrine specifically but of course any recommendations are welcome

Last two non-fantasy books that I really enjoyed:

The Black Swan: The Impact Of The Highly Improbable

        The Art of War

Both are outstanding profiles on human behavior and The Art of War would be of particular help to anyone looking to succeed in a corporate environment.

                Shade's Child by Garth Nix
                Invisible Man by Ralph ellison
                Catch-22
                Slaughterhouse-five

I don't recommend reading Watership Down at all. If you have some serious patience then go for it. Other than that..forget it.

p.s. I love how you mentioned ph as someone you would expect an intelligent post from.

                    1) A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving - This is my fav book of all time. Scurvy mentioned The World According to Garp which is excellent as well ... A Widow for One Year is great too.
                    2) Guns, Germs, and Steel by Jared Diamond - This might be a thicker read, but even if you only pick a few chapters to read, it's very interesting stuff.
                    3) Blink by Malcolm Gladwell - Also check out The Tipping Point and Outliers.
                    4) The Blind Side by Michael Lewis - Great story if you like football ... talks about the evolution of the left tackle, rise of LT, and contemporary story of Michael Oher who plays for Ole Miss.

Based on personal experience, I recommend The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexander Dumas (and I agree with whomever listed Catch-22).

Based on what I've heard from friends, I recommend The Romance of The Three Kingdoms and Musashi.

Haha, Brave New World was a high school read, don't think he'd be interested in that.

By the way, I like your choice of authors, especially Jared Diamond.

And Reaver, another book I'd suggest: A Portrait of a Young Artist by James Joyce
