      Any insight? =(
I'll tell you straight up, I'm working part-time as an accounting assistant for a non-profit (with a CFA, 2 CPAs, and 3 staff accountants) and I would NOT encourage you to go into the accounting field because, quite frankly, it's not much fun. If you enjoy counting numbers and talking about money all day then by all means, but if you want to enjoy your job, I suggest the other route.

And fortunately for my case, the job is only to support higher education! I hope this helps

P.S. It's not a dead field, there's still a great demand for accountants (of course, those with actual CPA degrees are often more desired than non-degree, but once you're hired and trained, you're pretty much good to go...you just won't start higher on the ladder). And I would like to think that there will always be a good demand for accountants because there will always be a need for people to fix up financial mistakes....and due to the fact that it's not much of an attractive job aside from its economic incentives.

as for public accounting, it's far from shrinking. i don't know about canadaville, but as long as the US tax code is over 16k pages and there's new reporting and auditing regulations every year, accounting isn't going anywhere. we had 4 layoffs during this recession. 4 out of 440 employees. i think the porn industry had more than that.

but you definitely need to decide what you want to do. it's not for everyone, and unless you really want to do it, you'll kill yourself halfway through your 1st tax season.
I guess I was more thinking about in the last 30 years or so. Certainly when my dad started, accountants took up floors and floors of people because you had to do all the calculations using your brain. Perhaps the field has since stabilized now at a new equilibrium post-technology.

Finding a job I think is all about your ambitions in life. What do you want from life is the most important thing to figure out first. And then you figure out how much money that life would cost. And THEN you should think about what kind of jobs you could possibly do that could get you that much money.

Unless you have an overwhelming burning desire to go into one field or another, I find it's better to think in those terms. I only say this because i've seen tons of people with their 'dream jobs' who completely hate their lives because their lifestyle is not what they thought it'd be.

You're obviously more intelligent and have seem to be better prepared for higher education than most of the retards playing SS. Choose something you'll like which will give you an acceptable paycheck each month.

            Luxury problem.

I decided not to take Chem II or Bio II in 12th grade, and I kind of wish I had. It set me up to take fewer sciences courses in college and some days I wish I had done neuropsych instead of just psych. So that's my insight.

                    genius answer

"choose something you like which pays well"
My father in law was telling me over Thanksgiving about this amazing bartender at some bar he frequented who could shake a martini and fill it to the rim with no leftovers and he thought it was the coolest thing he'd ever seen. I then proceeded to his home bar and made four martinis in one shaker with unfamiliar glassware and a non standard shaker and did the same thing. From that moment forward I knew he had no compunction about my cock ever being in his daughter's mouth.
