I thorougly enjoyed it. It was much better than Wolverine (which was cool to watch graphicly, but was just as cheesy as i thought it would be).

I don't think it was supposed to be an identical remake in any sense or a continuation of any storylines. I think this was a good move since there are more people who wouldn't be familiar with the backstory than those who would. It was set in an alternate history, typical of time travel. Time travel's not my favorite movie element by any means, but with all the fantastical technology of the franchise it's not completely unbelievable. It seemed like an action movie and an homage at teh same time. Sticklers to the 30 year old plot lines might have a hard time, but anyone looking to see a cool movie won't.

In the next movie spock should just go back to the future and prevent Romulus from being destroyed in the first place, then nero never goes back in time and Vulcan is never destroyed. They can call it Star Trek: Back to the Future

I saw this tonight and it's really entertaining. I highly suggest this. Action packed from the start to the beginning. There was no real downtime, it kept your heart rate up the entire time.

There were uncanny parallels to the Star Wars films, but what can you really ask for from a space franchise that doesn't make it absolutely nerdy and boring (like Battlestar Galactica).

                    Saw it yesterday.

I clock it at between OK and Good, but not Awesome. 7/10.

All the ship's computers are so CAPTAIN OBVIOUS.
                    SPOILER:
While Spok flies into the big ship with the small red matter carrying ship, the computer says, "gee, you're flying into a big ship, and it will ignite the red matter causing mass destruction lulz". Lames.

I really liked it. I grew up watching the old reruns religiously with my father, and while this movie does completely destroy the old backstory, it was still a good movie. Probably about time they did a reboot for this franchise anyways.

Although I couldn't quite wrap my head around the 2 lovers in this movie... that was just too weird for words.

I thought it was pretty good. It lacks the usual political/moral underpinning of Star Trek and relies entirely on the characters to drive it, but Kirk and Spock are sufficiently well known to audiences and faithfully portrayed, so it works. I was entertained. 8 out of 10.

Don't let the nitty gritty details of science distract you. Sometimes you just have to swallow some dirt and enjoy the movie. It's just like the central premise of the Matrix - your mind makes it real? So if you get shot in the matrix, your mind makes a bullet hole in your body? Horseshit. But you can't let that get in the way. Suspend disbelief and just watch the damned thing.

Pay attention to the music when Sulu and Kirk are fighting on the drill platform. It sounded like an homage to the old Kirk vs. Spock combat music, but I must've been the only one who noticed...

Loved it. Thought Simon Pegg was awesome and the action was pretty cool.

My only complaints are Tyler Perry (wtf?) and the lense flair. Was it really necessary to have light obscure every shot? Still, those were minor complaints and overall I thought it was a well made movie.

Anyone else notice that the big-ass creature that almost killed Kirk had the Cloverfield roar?

what didn't you like about tyler perry? I thought it was pretty funny that he was in it, and he only had like 5 lines
My father in law was telling me over Thanksgiving about this amazing bartender at some bar he frequented who could shake a martini and fill it to the rim with no leftovers and he thought it was the coolest thing he'd ever seen. I then proceeded to his home bar and made four martinis in one shaker with unfamiliar glassware and a non standard shaker and did the same thing. From that moment forward I knew he had no compunction about my cock ever being in his daughter's mouth.

I don't know. Like I said, it's not a big complaint but it definitely took me out of the movie. Maybe it was just his performance but I didn't think to myself, holy shit that's Harold, or Sylar, or Shaun. Then when he came up, I said to myself...that's Tyler Perry.

Also, I think I saw Kal Penn in the movie at one point.
