The lionhead studio demo of natal was pretty impressive.

From the videos I've seen of natal being used it looks extremely accurate and appears to have no lag at all. You guys should check out some demo videos of it. There's at least two, the one at e3 and the lionhead one (which I think was also at e3).

I don't think natal could ever really replace the controller though. It will definitely be fun to use and I'm sure there will be some creative uses for it.

the MS "demo" is 100% fake (it says so right at the beginning of the video) and peter molyneux is a notorious bullshitter. don't be a credulous idiot

Btw vyk check out some of the ACTUAL DEMO videos. Not that promotional one that is clearly fake. It was demo'd at e3 live and other people that don't work for Microsoft got to try the 3d break out game or whatever the hell it's called.

Only thing in this I really care about is Forza 3, since it is clear we will not be seeing GT5 anytime soon. I thought both of the Forza games were the shit and I had absolutely no complaints about Forza 2. And NFS? Really? They haven't made a decent driving game since Porsche Unleashed. I'm sure it will have pretty graphics, but I don't play racing simulations for the graphics.

I really had to go back and do a second look through on this Project Natal tech demo. With Vyk as my sole ally in this, and the websites really pushing the greatness of Natal, I felt I should give this thing a second shot.

I saw the videos of it in live use. I'm gonna say I'm impressed with the ability to scan and recognize the limbs, the technical aspects are astounding to the point that if they work as advertised, it'd be really "next gen". But i still have a laundry list of things that can go wrong that have in past tech.

1. Camera based controllers require you to stay in a certain zone. When in a heated game, you can often lose track of yourself in a room and pull yourself out the hot zones. But, with the lock on tech to the joints of your body, I would hope this would be less of a problem than before.

2. The voice recognition in anything always pisses me off. I want to use slang, use common phrases that aren't proper english to talk to the computer to relay what I want. Nothing pulls you out of that immersion than the game repeatedly telling you it doesn't know wtf you're trying to say.

3. No pedophile training games, Molyenux.

4. Lag is currently an issue with the tech, but I'm sure it'd be fixed my launch.

5. And lastly, the quality of functions for this tech is always shaky. Will it be comprised of primarily mini games? The casual crowd could pick up on it, but the real gamers will want Natal for immersion with Gears of War or Halo or Burnout or Fifa. If this tech only goes as far as the casual, it'll fall on it's face.

I'd love this to work, but I'm still going to remain guarded on my hype for this.

Btw: Funny note. Tony Hawk premiered their $120 skateboard perhipheral for the new title dropping. Natal's tech demo came right after where the kid didn't need a board at all. GG Neversoft?

also, and maybe this is only true for me, I kinda like holding a controller in my hands when I play video games. I don't want to run around my living room like a 5th grade goofball making the shape of a gun with my hands when I'm playing GTA. I'll keep my controller thank you.

It's still too early to tell if Microsoft can pull this off or not. Just needs the right backing. The OXM Podcast said this is still over a year off, lots of stuff can happen by then.

I'm with you there man, I didn't have an Xbox when Forza came out, but I got pretty into Forza 2 when I got my Xbox, I even bought the wireless racing wheel. It may not be the best racing game I've ever played but it was definitely the most immense in terms of cars and modification/tuning. I love racing around with a giant swastika on my bonnet (hood). Can't wait for Forza 3. From the screens, looks like they've put more effort into track design.

Natal is still something I'm interested in, if they can make it as good as the previews, I'll be sold. If this is more Wii mini-game style and experimental, then I'm out. It certainly writes some juicy cheques, we'll have to wait and see if the end product can actually cash them.

The really obvious downside to this is how the eye would capture movement and correlate that into a "move" in the MK world, and how they could make it interesting if it takes people awhile to do the move. The obvious downside is that people move a lot slower than our video game counterparts, so I'm guessing they're not going to make tekken 6 playable with the natal because, let's face it, I can't do the Baek kicks.
