What makes a band if it isn't style? Just because someone is good at guitar doesn't make their band good. I'll give Phish this: if they got someone that wasn't a schmuck to write their songs, or if they actually played songs, maybe they'd be good. Tool still just plain sucks. Granted, I'll never be in a band as good as Tool, because I don't play any instruments, but they're one of the most overrated bands ever. There is no reason they should be popular.

so uh, how many bands has a singer that can do nearly anything with their voice, a guitarist that doesn't know much about music theory but still pulls off head banging riffs, a bassist that's actually worth listening to, and a drummer that can carry a melody with his 26 piece drumset?

Whoever it is...they just want your money.

Oh ya, not to mention their live show has the same sound quality, if not better, as their album does. Have you ever been to a show where you can not only hear the bass....but feel it?

BTW, bjork is a singer...not a group, and she's hot, so leave her alone.

So, wow. Tool plays all their live sets exactly like their album tracks, and since dumbshits like you give Tool lots of money, they can afford good speakers? Both of those things make Tool a good band. Wait, no. And the answer to your question is yes. You can feel the bass at pretty much any show with a small audience where end up up front. I felt the bass when I saw Pretty Girls Make Graves open for Les Savy Fav. Does Pretty Girls Make Graves still suck as a live band? Yes.

I saw Petrucci play a few metres away from me during a whole SFAM gig. I've never seen shit like that.

Also it's best to make judgements on skill when you do the act yourself to a certain degree of proficiency. (Not that you don't)
