  • Suggestion for a hybrid bicycle for weekend trails?

Does anyone here ride bikes and can suggest a beginner weekend bike thats suited for trails and roads? I'm looking at some hybrid bikes at the moment, but don't know which direction to go...

    My budget is between 200-400.

I would recommend the eneloop. Gotta search for pics yourself.

Sanyo releases Eneloop Bike in Japan. This electric bike features self charging (Loop Charge Function) battery that offers 100km riding (automatic mode) with a 5.2V 5.7Ah. It also features two-wheel drive system and Power-up Mode with 1:2 assist ratio. Price: $1,460.

But here is some other high quality, expensive ones.

The most affordable eZee bike is the Liv (seen above). This lightweight bike lacks the power and top speed of some of its eZee siblings, but makes up for it with its superb range and affordability. This bike costs around $1,150 and is suited to the commuter or recreational rider who wants help with hills, but with no desire to cruise at 18mph or race up steep hills.

The eZee Torq II was just released, and while it looks very similar to a conventional bike, it is one of the fastest and best hill-climbing electric bikes available. Richard Peace made the eZee Torq his Pick of the Year in the January 2007 issue of Cycling Plus magazine. You can read an in-depth review of this bike here and here. It sells for $1,750.

All the eZee bikes are available in the U.S. from NYCEWheels and Urban Scooters

Here is what you want I guess.

I've been testing the E-Zip 2008 Trailz bike by Currie Technologies. This electric bike is quite inexpensive -- other electric bikes range in price from $700 up to $3000 in the U.S. For half the price, this is a solid bike with good range and power. My bike arrived partly-assembled in a box. It took me about an hour to attach the seat, front wheel and pedals. The lead-acid battery took about 2 to 3 hours to come to full charge. The weight of this battery and the motor make the E-Zip a heavy bike.

Using the electric motor on this bike is simple -- once you've started pedaling, you can turn the throttle, and the motor kicks in, giving you an immediate boost. On hills this really makes a difference -- you can speed up most hills with ease.
I've found that the range of a fully-charged battery is about 10 miles -- that's if you make liberal use of the electric assist. If you just use it to go up hills, the charge will last for 20-25 miles. The battery detaches so that you can charge at a cafe or an office. You can also add a second battery for $120 from Currie Technologies, that will double your range (but also increase the bike's weight). Unfortunately, the bike's manual says that the lead-acid batteries are only good for one year.
If you use this bike for a commute that is 20 miles or less, you could definitely arrive at the office without breaking a sweat. I was pleased by the power of the motor. It was easy to achieve speeds of 25 mph while pedaling lightly.
So while bike is heavy and lithium-ion batteries would be nice, it's certainly an inexpensive way to enter the world of electric biking.
The E-Zip Trailz is available from Walmart.Com for $348 (select "Electric Bikes"). It's only available online - but shipping is free if you pick it up from a local store.
The effects that are planned to be studied on the kinetic level are: Laminar and turbulent flow; the transition between both; thermodynamics and self-organisation of complex plasma flows; solitons and shocks; interfaces and plasma instabilities; agglomeration and disagglomeration. For low-frequency excitation and confining particles modulated RF coils and high-voltage supplies are foreseen.

I don't think that's what he meant by "hybrid". In bicycling, hybrid refers to bikes that are designed for on- and off-road use, not like cars where it refers to vehicles with combustion and electric power.

It's a little over your budget, but it's hard to find stuff for as cheap as you wanted.

Your local bike place should have older models that they want to sell off ... that you can get for fairly cheap. And $400 should be perfectly fine for a pretty new solid brand older model.

I ended up investing a little more in a Klein Carbon-Q Race bike... but now I need to get fitted for some shoes so I can use the clipless pedals.

                  The bike feels great!

                      get a racing bike.

                      hybrid bikes are pretty gay.

not as gay as disorder for posting pictures/links of electric bikes tho.. here's what i would recommend disorder; grow a pair of legs. no one under the age of 60 (unless on doctor's advise or something) should even be allowed to get an electric bike.
