I disagree, the bad guy was a fuCKING NAZI NINJA! I enjoy films that break the expectations of western logic. The Spirit, Postal, western django, Survive Style or I am Cyborg. If you hate one you probably hate them all, but i had a blast watching them.

Pretty much agree with thix' list, except for big fish, watched it yesterday and fell asleep.

Just watched true romance again, awesome movie.
I'd also recommend the ususal suspects, matchstick men, the bourne trilogy(duh), lock stock and two smoking barrels, lucky number slevin, no country for old men(duh), pretty much any movie with al pacino playing a gangster, ghost dog (which has an awesome soundtrack too) and my favourite movie La Haine!

Haven't started to watch older movies, so can't give you any recommendations on those.
