  • Google Chrome - not the browser

    If you haven't heard: http://money.cnn.com/2009/07/08/tech...ion=2009070807

What are your thoughts? I personally use Google Chrome the browser and I love it (yeah, even compared to Firefox). If the Chrome OS turns out to be in any way shape or form better than Windows 7 and similar to Chrome (browser) in smoothness and cleanness, I'll just consider getting it.

I read about this on the elevator today (for some reason u guys post all the news i see on there all the time lmao)
The new system will initially be targeted at netbooks
With that said, I most likely will not be getting it. I have a pretty souped up PC at home and I use it for many different things.

Google said the new operating system will make use of open source programming, which allows third-party developers to design compatible add-ons
I have a feeling it's going to be a lot like ubuntu without all the linux.

also another thing i saw on the screen while riding up to my floor is that Microsoft does see how an expensive operating system can detour people from buying it and they are going to make it significantly cheaper. So I'd actually wait out on Windows 7 considering that news.

In other W7 news, Amazon.com is having a sale (58% off) for pre-orders. If you want to get it, go now and get your copy early and 58% off the price that's listed right now.

    (Listed price for W7 Premium : 119.99, price with 58% off, 49.99)
"This item will be released on October 22, 2009."

    (Listed price for W7 Professional : 199.99, price with 50% off, 99.99)
"This item will be released on October 22, 2009."

W7 Ultimate: 219.99, not on sale.

I'm just going to wait until it releases before I buy anything. Personally I think microsoft is going to reduce the price with the news I heard.

i have a feeling that a google os will be unlike any other os we've seen before. their whole mantra is to push us ahead toward cloud computing, and cloud computing makes the operating system a whole lot less important. think of it like this. right now your os is the school principal. in the age of cloud computing, your os would be more like the crossing guard.

I also saw the thing about the netbook, I also won't be getting it as it comes out. I think I will at least try to see if anyone's show-casing it. If it turns out to be that much better than Windows 7, I'll get it when they've vamped Chrome for more powerful computers.

Considering your Microsoft ad (), if I were you, I'd go ahead and get the preorder, I think the price will go up once it's released. I also read that once you get Windows 7, it comes with all versions and is dumped on your computer. Buying upgrades only unlocks the features (which is stupid on so many levels). I know that I'll be ordering soon.

Google are known in this day and age for trying to bridge the gap between desktop and web-based applications. By the fact that their OS will be almost exclusively for Netbooks it won't be a Windows killer, but a Linux killer.

This kind of OS will be ideal for netbooks, but in terms of everyday computing I doubt it will be able to compare with the pure availability and compatibility of Windows.

          No need to worry.

I'm interested in the OS, but not getting it for my desktop since I'm running a high end rig that needs updated drivers. I'm not really quick to jump on the Windows 7 thing either, because all new OSes have their quirks and it'll take some time to fix them.

What's sad in a way is that Vista Ultimate SP2 is actually not a bad OS, despite all the negative publicity at the getgo. The vista we have now is completely different than the pre-SP1 vista that people most often comment on. It simply needs the hardware to be able to run it (anything with a core 2 and later) and to have all of it's auto-updates turned off. But properly tweaked, vista runs graphics intensive (dx10) applications a lot better than Windows RC 7.

i'll probably torrent chrome and try it on a partition. But it's not really a microsoft contender because it simply doesn't have the support from 3rd parties.

I think the interesting thing is Google's trend not to have its products come out in sequential versions but as being continuously updating and evolving. GMail only recently officially lost its beta label, and as a longtime user, I only heard about it from a cheeky posting in Google's blog saying people can restore the word "beta" in the banner on their GMail page. Even while it was in "beta", GMail has changed significantly since it first debuted.

It's really more of a philosophical difference than anything, but it also ties into what Jason was saying about Cloud computing.

Apparently you dont know what Opera is

                    http://www.opera.com/

its what you use if you dont use firefox, not google chrome. Opera is the most compliant and always the first compliant browser. There is no better browser than Opera. Furthermore its not made by a new world order company in bed with the rothschild and active in spying, datamining, censorship and disinformation.

like plug ins use firefox, if not using firefox you use Opera, any fool knows this

why dont you all just wear a T-shirt that says "i am ultra mainstream and programmed by the TV and the consensus and i never heard of anything thats not ultra-mainstream and pushed hard on the public"

If jerk-offs like you use opera (gay name, btw), then I'm not interested.

I tried Opera while on Ubuntu. It kept glitching up and not letting me type. I'd be hitting keys while clicked into the address bar or a text box and nothing would move. It only happened in Opera. That's a POS.

Too bad I don't have a netbook, I'd like to see how Chrome OS does, since I pretty much use everything Google already (using Chrome browser right now a-lols)
                          thread killer

Also who changed to pw to Squadless, how am I supposed to fly the banner of sucking at the game

I tried it for a little while on Ubuntu as well, and I actually liked it except I couldn't get flash to work, which apparently is a common problem.
