On a sidenote, I think people focus too much on the here and now instead of looking into the near future. It's not like CFC's are here to stay forever, they will be made obsolete by other technologies in no time. First there will be LED, then there will be OLED or AMOLED, and then who knows what's next. This law is not intended shove an endless supply of CFC's down the people's throat, but rather to prevent people from clinging onto the terrible inefficient traditional light bulb forever.

Only in a free market can better technology be invented. The free market works because its business is to cater to the wants of the people, IE the truck market in America went to shit because gas prices went up and environmental awareness went up, it caused a few car companies to tank and finally now they are starting to think ahead and producing fuel efficient cars because that is what the public wanted.

Forcing the car companies to build those cars isn't only unnecessary if that is what the people in that country want and desire it goes against what our country believes in.

Market Intervention is pointless because by threatening the ban of incandescent light bulbs all it did was increase the demand of incandescent light bulbs and cause the supply to be bumped up until the ban. People I hear in Europe are going and buying boxes of the old light bulbs all because the government made a huge stink about it, largely because not everyone buys into the environmental/global warming religion that so many do believe in.
