On a sidenote, I think people focus too much on the here and now instead of looking into the near future. It's not like CFC's are here to stay forever, they will be made obsolete by other technologies in no time. First there will be LED, then there will be OLED or AMOLED, and then who knows what's next. This law is not intended shove an endless supply of CFC's down the people's throat, but rather to prevent people from clinging onto the terrible inefficient traditional light bulb forever.
Sometimes it requires a, dare I say it, market intervention to initiate or speed up a process for the common good. May Jerome have mercy on my soul for this.
