I've heard it was unbelievably terrible. The guy who told me was so mad about how bad it was, he single handily convinced me to not see it and rent it instead. Shame, it looked so cool!

      Anyone seen it?
I have been trying to get my friends to watch it with me, since I've been seeing all the great reviews about it. But my friends keep saying "Never heard about it". : (

      BUT.

I offered to watch District 9 with them if they watched The Hurt Locker with me. : )

That being said, I enjoyed District 9 quite a bit. Wasn't what I expected at all. The switching between documentary style to... not-documentary style was iffy occasionally, but I managed to get past that. Good acting/action throughout (What The Foook). Almost feels like there should be a sequel, but it would not hurt me tremendously if there wasn't.

It's one of those things that either works really well or makes the movie look like an amateur piece of shit, Battlestar Galactica for example had awesome DOPs who perfected the art of giving the show an edgy intense feel without making it look like a choppy piece of shit. There's a huge difference between a person who has perfected the art of operating an ENG camera and someone who thinks they can swing their camera around like a flaccid cock cause it's artistic.

ever notice how all of the action scenes in the bourne movies are a mess? it also seems like they cut every 2 seconds. matt damon will make one fighting movie, they'll cut, he'll make another fighting move, they'll cut...all while shaking the camera violently.

that being said, i still enjoyed them for the most part

on topic: i've heard mixed reviews about district 9 similar to what i've seen in this thread. it looks interesting

I haven't heard many "mixed" reviews. It's a graphic movie, so people that maybe aren't that into that sorta stuff won't like it, but if you consider yourself a fan of science fiction in any way you need to see this movie.

District 9, on the other hand, had a goddamn pig launcher. Awesome movie.

About the The Hurt Locker.. It had some beautiful shots.. and... ehh... yep that's it. The director/writer clearly gave fuck all about doing even the slightest bit of research into the army/Iraqi war, and that's exactly where this movie quickly became a big failure. We're supposed to believe it's a deep psychological portrayal of soldiers (in this case bomb disposal specialists) in war, or maybe the war-aspect wasn't even important and it was just about the adrenaline-junkie sergeant? Either way it gets a LITTLE problematic when I don't buy ANY of the scenes. Everything that happened was so goddamn unrealistic, this should've been labeled as a fantasy movie. It's just insulting how little research this director bothered to do. This movie deserves none of the good reviews that it got, it's was as realistic as GI Joe, except that movie doesn't act like it is.
I'll just stick to Generation Kill if I want a good portrayal of soldiers in (the Iraqi) war, or I'll go back to good ol' Tour of Duty.

District 9 sounds awesome though, can't wait for it.

Wow this makes me even more psyched! It's coming out here in Sweden like this week!

I started reading about Camerons Avatar a while ago and then found out that the revolutionizing CGI used in Avatar is being used in D9 aswell so that's how I found out about it. Been psyched ever since! Trailers everywhere but I refuse to watch them. Trailers spoil way too much!

Nice to hear awesome reviews. I'll give my opinion on it next week

Off topic about Avatar: Anyone got to see the free 20 mins?
