this new minimalist google thing

i'm a huge fan of minimalism, so i'm digging it

took me awhile to even realize they'd done it because i've gotten used to the omnibar in chrome, but here at work all i have access to is ie6 (yeah ridiculous, i know) so i came across it just recently

not sure it's all that useful, but it's nice and neat which really appeases the OCD beast within

if you load the page and do not move your mouse at all, it just comes up with the logo, the search box and the text, "Press enter to search."

once you move your mouse, some javascript makes the usual layout appear.

I did www.google.com to check it out... it kept going to iGoogle.

don't worry jase, I noticed this last week. I like it cool, though I usually use my firefox tab in the top right for searches, so it isn't that big of an impact. Still a cool design effect.

I don't like it.

Nothing wrong with just having a search bar and a Search Button. Any marginal changes they do are really unnecessary.

p.s. i also don't like it because when i type www.google.com it usually defaults to me being able to type into the search bar automatically. Now i have to type google.com and mouse over and then go back to the keyboard. Not that big of a deal, but really unnecessary IMO.
