    GO Europe!!

But for me it's mostly just long run dreaming.

It's clear we desperately need some mayor changes in politics/general attitudes for it to work as I'd wish.. Dunno how that's ever gonna happen.. countries like France have a mayor attitude problem and they just suck pretty bad in general at working together with other nations.. and as long as they've a lot of power the EU is always going to be MEH. But yeah without the EU (getting more supranational power) some changes are never gonna happen.

But yeah, I'd wish people (Europeans) would be more grateful of what the EU has done for Europe. Before the EU, never in the history of Europe there has been such a long continuous period of no (mayor) wars within Europe. I think it's save to say that it's unthinkable that any two EU-countries would ever go at war with each other again..
Which is also why I'd look forward to see a country like Turkey joining the EU. Of course when (just like the Eastern European countries) complying to a plan of making some changes. Once they'll see the benefits of being within the EU, they'll be more ready to make changes as well. Turkey joining could create a bridge towards the Middle East. And yes, ideally in the long run it should push forward to the Middle East or maybe first Northern Africa! But then it would also be the time to change the name. Also probably 2050 by then.

But yeah I can see why anyone would be pretty skeptical of the current EU. Especially when you're a Swede like Mantra, and see an EU that's not even half as capable of governing as Sweden..

Also it's way too dominated by catholic right parties!

Also need to get rid of ridiculous agriculture subsidies!

PS. FRIGGING SMILEY LIMIT. HOW CAN I MAKE MY POINT WITHOUT SMILIES>!!!)!@&*$&^@*
Its funny when Nycle defends the Lisbon treaty by denying these things will happen but at the same promotes it for saying its the first steps towards these things happening.

Its like WW2 all over again. Europeans will never allow this horrific fantasy of Brams to happen, you will see another extream far right group rise up and the Jews take the brunt like always. Another century another quest for world domination.

I think the EU stick to what it is currently doing. I think Turkey shouldn't be allowed to join until they shape up their country and I definitely think we shouldn't go towards the middle east or anything like that. It should stay what it is, a way to make our economic position in the world stronger, etc.

I do agree with Bram that the agriculture subsidies should be taken away, if we really want to help Africa, we shouldn't do everything in our power to make it impossible for them to sell their products.

First I would like to compliment Nycle on his post. A clear and informative argument.

I can't say I am totally sure about Exalt's intentions, but I must give him credit for taking an interest in European politics.
The sentiment he expressed was shared amongst many Dutch people too when they voted `no' on the referendum, so it's not totally illogical.

But people are mainly uninformed on the matter and so most reactions are pub talk. They complain as much about their own government as they do about the European Union.
Just like their government the majority of the union has been put in place through democracy.

The European parliament is directly elected by the people and the Council are the elected leaders of every country.
The union has a commission and an ombudsman which aren't exactly body's you would have found in a fascist structure.

The following page explains the structure of the European Union: http://europa.eu/about-eu/institutio...s/index_en.htm

        And on the treaty: http://europa.eu/lisbon_treaty

EDIT: And when I wasn't as busy as now, I would check http://ec.europa.eu/ on a daily basis.
