Did anyone score some cool Black Friday deals? All I got was a 750GB hard drive for $60 at Newegg. Didn't really feel like standing in line anywhere.

it was a pretty good deal, but you should've just gotten two seagate barracuda 7200.12 500gb drives (like i told you to in that other thread) and run them in a raid0 configuration. that shit woulda been blazin' fast.

wish i could afford an ssd for my upcoming build. they put mechanical drives to some serious shame.

oh yeah, and as to the topic at hand, i got a garmin nuvi 255w for my mom. picked it up for $120 at radio shack. wasn't too bad of a deal, but i probably could have done better if i wasn't so lazy.

Solid state drives are basically glorified USB flash drives. Totally not worth the storage space, at least not until prices start coming down.

Also, J you assume that I know a lot of shit about computers. I really don't--I built my desktop and got everything hooked up right, but once you start talking software I am as lost as fucking Paris Hilton in the Smithsonian.

SSDs are good for laptops. For portables the temperature, performance, battery usage, durability, and silence benefits are worth only having 64GB of storage. 20 second boot time gets all the ladies too.

i'll excuse your first paragraph because of the explanation in your second paragraph. ;]

ssd's are far from glorified usb flash drives. intel's x25-m g2 is one smoking fast drive. 20 second boot times? more like under 10. a computer is only as fast as it's slowest component. with all of the exponential advances in technology, hard drives are the one missing piece of the puzzle. by comparison, hard drives are slow as all hell. that's where ssd's come into play. if you were to throw an ssd into your system, i guarantee you'd be blown away.
