The following corporate offices of the following businesses are down the street from me. This is only a handful of big conglomerate offices that employ thousands upon thousands of people. They are located in the suburb of Mississauga, not even Toronto. I can't begin to think of all the businesses that are located in Toronto, but what I do know is that Saskatchewan is a hole with little options for employment.
Microsoft
RBC (Royal Bank of Canada)
Mapleleaf (meat company)
Siemens
Walmart
General Electric
That's only a few I can remember, there's literally hundreds upon hundreds of corporate offices just in my crappy little suburb.
Toronto is the financial capital of Canada, it rivals such cities as New York, and L.A. Toronto in terms of media is the third largest in North America. It employs graphic designers, video editors, news outlets, and among other professionals. CBC's Toronto location employs more Canadians than any other location across Canada. There's something called the TSX, Toronto Stock Exchange. Not the SSX.
Toronto is also home to the University of Toronto, Canada's top University. Not only being world renowned, it is the best school someone in Canada can attend. Toronto is the most costly Canadian city to live in, small homes cost anywhere from $500,000 to upwards of 4-5 million. The average family in Toronto makes well over 100k a year.
There's a lot of people here from Toronto who will tell you two things;
1) I'm being a douchebag
2) Toronto is incomparable in terms of jobs and wealth with the rest of Canada

Here's some stats for you;
Saskatchewan's GDP accounts for 3% of all of Canada, Ontario accounts for 40%. Saskatchewan's GDP is ranked sixth as ours is ranked first.
I think it's clear that Saskatchewan will grow, as the demand for oil increases. It's like Alberta, you have two maybe three main industries and you think you're golden. Depleting your oil and destroying arable land for the short term gain is nothing to applaud. Alberta was a piece of shit before they found oil, and it will be a piece of shit when the oil dries up. On paper Alberta and Saskatchewan look good right now but as I said for provinces to 'hit black gold' doesn't speak volume about the provinces ability to grow and dominate markets, rather it shows that you got lucky and just like Alberta you'll probably end up squandering your wealth.
And then you ask yourself, what then? If one industry in Ontario tanks such as the manufacturing industry did (ALL ACROSS NORTH AMERICA), we had a thousand more to pick up the pieces. Provinces that don't invest in these industries easily become has been provinces. Ontario represents the majority of Canada, thus when Canada is doing well it's most apparent in my province. When the country isn't doing well it's most apparent in my province.
sell your oil, rape your land, and ask the state for aid seems like the future methodology.Last edited by Cops; 12-23-2009, 10:49 PM.it makes me sick when i think of it, all my heroes could not live with it so i hope you rest in peace cause with us you never did

University of Toronto is a joke, the teachers are on strike pretty much every two semesters. And the manufacturing sector is a joke, you're the reason Ontario looks bad for being considered worst off province lately since we need to bail you all out of your stupidity.Thousands of candles can be lit from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. If you want to argue, try to have some factual information to back up what you're saying. York University is the University that goes on strike every other year, not U of T. However I'd rather go to York than attend some no name University, such as the University of Saskatchewan or the University of Saskatoon.
Having a University of Toronto degree is worth more nationally and internationally than any other University in Canada. As far as saying you have to bail us out, well that's not true at all. Quebec and Ontario pay more federal taxes into this country than any other province, I believe we make up something like 70% of all federal taxes. We have more people, thus we support more. The argument lies in that per capita people in Ontario and Quebec get less services from their federal taxes compared to the rest of the provinces. So federal money that should be going to Ontario finds its way out East and out West to provinces that need more help than the rest.
The manufacturing industry existed all across Canada, it wasn't just located here in Ontario. When the manufacturing jobs were in decline it affected all parts of this country. Saskatchewan couldn't support us even if they wanted to, their GDP is so low they barely have enough to support their own people and invest in growing. There's jobs in Saskatchewan so homes are built and communities are lifted, however just like Alberta it's based around the oil industry. Once the oil leaves these newly created homes and communities will be in shambles. It's like any story book American city that had 3-4 car manufacturing plants and no other industries, once the product was taken away the communities self destructed. The problem is also that people aren't stupid they know these jobs in these places won't last forever, so they are going to your province will the full intention of leaving when it dries up. The province can't really stabilize itself with people not willing to settle down and pay taxes in your province, so a few things will happen when the black gold is gone;
- housing prices will drop significantly, homes will sit empty
- province will incur tremendous debt from people up and leaving, ie no tax dollars
- local businesses will flounder without money trickling into them
- you will have a population that cannot support its own needs
Basically your home will become the equivalent of Flint fucking Michigan.Last edited by Cops; 12-24-2009, 08:28 AM.it makes me sick when i think of it, all my heroes could not live with it so i hope you rest in peace cause with us you never did
