  • progressive rock i guess or whatever (pauloakenfold, ph, et al)

alright so i enjoy listening to this genre of music, especially when i've got homework to do i find it very complimentary, but i've had problems with finding good bands.

really i only listen to do make say think and explosions in the sky. i need something along those lines in terms of accessibility. any suggestions?

wrong forum but i'm too lazy to move it

anyway just picking and choosing a few things from my playlist here (trying to lean more toward prog and less toward post):

          crime in choir
trans am (been listening to futureworld a lot lately, a+ album, also recommend sex change)
          cougar
          el ten eleven
shora (not their first two albums though, they're noisy and bad)
          tunturia
          you.may.die.in.the.desert
          the samuel jackson five
don caballero (this is kind of a given really)

more later if you need it and i get bored and find my way back here

IMO crime in choir isn't accessible upon first hearing them. I would add:

            up-c down-c left-c right-c abc + start
            maserati
russian circles (try their album geneva first)
            this will destroy you
The song doesn't make your hands clap,
The hand claps make the song

You should definitely try out Yndi Halda if you like Explosions in the Sky.

As for progressive rock... David Gilmour and/or Porcupine Tree.

Just a couple of quick notes though, if you like Explosions in the Sky specifically, you'll probably like This Will Destroy You... since they're pretty much the same group, but TWDY cuts to the chase quicker.

God Speed You Black Emperor and the Samuel Jackson Five are probably my two all time favorites.

I haven't been listening to a lot of post-rock the past half-year or so, but those links are a pretty good start.
