In any social study, it is virtually (see what I did there) impossible to keep something restricted to one single subject. In fact to do so would severally limit your study and have severe impacts for the validity of your research. Fact is that life can't be divided into subjects, you can't research a social phenomenon from an only psychology, or only sociology perspective. Ph.D research should fall mostly within your subject but there is absolute no problem whatsoever with borrowing bits and pieces from different subjects.

My job as a medical doctor does not include making moral choices for parents about how they should raise their kids. Similarly if I had an adult patient who was indulging in online porn or gambling I could care less unless it became a real problem for them. This is similar to say if I found a patient who drank alcohol of any age, it wouldn't matter to me unless it became a health issue. I would never tell parents to feed their kids alcohol, but then again I wouldn't tell them not to either unless the kid was so young it was actually unhealthy.

If the entire point of your thesis is 'technology can be used for bad things', I really think that you don't really have a point at all and you need to look for a new thesis. This is sort of a common sense point as ANYTHING can be good or bad depending on who is using it.

Your other point seems to be that the internet is decreasing communication whatever that means. I'm not sure how something that fundamentally increases communication can actually be decreasing it, but you seem to have an overemphasis on stuff like poor grammar on twitter and people looking up porn as the reasons why ignoring that many people in real life have poor writing skills, poor communication skills and do moral things that others may not approve of.

Anyway there's nothing left to say really. Good luck with your thesis, if you actually finish it and do a good job, post it here for us to read. I'd be interested to see how you go about this.

I actually don't know if you're just responding to me now or if you've actually read what I was trying to say or what. It's not "technology can be used for bad things" it never was. Please read my previous posts. It's also comforting that my local physician doesn't condemn immorality as long as there is no physical harm in jerking it 10 times a day.

I'll let you guys know what the panel thinks. When I say panel I mean I have 4 professors guiding this. And I do need to play to their sensibilities. If I have one, that is. I might disband it because RATTY is a professional at dissertation writing and apparently my colleagues are wrong.

Oh btw, its 4 years for a doctorate, not 2 for a Norwegian one, I'm on my first year of my masters degree when my professors approached me to turn this into a Ph.D dissertation. If you read my first post you'll know that it's for an IT Ph.D. But sorry you are correct mighty one. I will do it in 2 years.

Are you sure? Norway does set the standard in Ph.D research and everyone knows how to do one. Just saying.

If you've been reading, I've been saying 2+ years all along. Which means that it's atleast two years if you're effective, and it's been done earlier. 4 years is the average time.

And who said that he had to strictly stick to one subject? "as fast as it goes over to a subject you havent majored in or don't master". or don't master

It's obvious that some subjects are connected to each other, you don't get far in physics without maths, biology and chemistry, but some retard like gallegay seems to have a hard time understanding this. Just a quick update.

The presentation went quite well, and my panel for the most part seemed pleased. The presentation and questioning from the panel lasted about 2 hours. The prof teaching the class (also my academic adviser) seemed quite positive that I can get the grant as long as I focused the research more towards cyberspace addictions and the cyber-physical boundary. The panel seemed to really like the stuff about substituting real needs with virtual goods, and hate the part where I pointed fingers that we're all a part of the problem. So that's what I'll have to do in the next few weeks to my deliverable before I submit it. Prolly not going to cut out the finger pointing.
