No, it can't run SS.
Yeap, definitely a nice Xmas pressie
I haven't given it my wi-fi password, so it's gotta be doing that on the 3G. (Wouldn't be surprised if they shut that off at some point though!)
Lots of books in the store have samples, which is already good for killing time. There's a good amount of free books too, if you like things such as Alice in Wonderland and Pride and Prejudice.

Nice!!!!!!
I've been very tempted by the new kindle model. Especially it's low introductory model price. I've been using the Kindle app on my iPod for a while and that's pretty good for what it is. I do hate Amazon's one-click shit though... dangerous.Fuck it.

Can the Kindle read .pdf's?
I wouldn't mind getting an e-book reader that does .pdf's if only for the fact that I cannot for the life of me read anything on my laptop anymore without getting distracted every 3 minutes.duel pasta <ER>> i can lick my asshole

The Kindle so far has done a perfect job on PDFs (that's the main reason I bought it). It's been able to render (quite quickly) everything I've chucked at it so far, e.g. textbooks, sheet music and manuals.
The big limitation is the small screen, because a lot of PDFs meant to be printed out on ~A4. You can zoom or read in landscape but I personally don't find that very convenient. So basically, that's a large chunk of PDFs I won't be reading on the Kindle. Proper ebooks are fine since you're able to choose a larger font and the text will reflow.
I would consider getting the Kindle DX for PDFs as it has a larger screen - I didn't get it since it's not sold in Europe. However, the DX doesn't have the useful 'darken' function which makes pale PDF text a lot easier to read.
These videos were useful to me:

You can always send me a PDF and I'll take some pics for you
