china has 30 million more men then women because of the one child policy, only a fool making these rules in the 70s would not see that in 30-40 years a war would be necessary to feed, pay, do something with these men. China proved that it could hold off American forces in the Korean War with superior numbers, soldiers who were not as fearful of death because they are not as careful with life, and AK-47s. Now they have bombers, nukes, subs, some say aircraft carriers are secretly in the works. They have hundreds of factories, they have bought up mines and bases around the globe, much has changed since the 50's. Do they want to engage USA? Perhaps not, but they have the economic, political, and military advantage due to USA decline in all 3 areas. They know we are heavily committed in the middle east, and if we move out of there, China could move in and begin to and claim the oil. China has always presented itself as an expanding empire, from the example of Tibet, and their positioning toward Taiwan. To think that they are content with China's current borders would be naive. It may be that Korea is a smokescreen toward different ends.

I don't think the Chinese people actually care about the rest of the world enough to actually care about trying to take it over. They'd be pretty happy just having a good country and having other people envy them a lot and having to learn Chinese.

As an aside, China already imports more oil from Saudi Arabia than the USA, and they also import from Iran (2nd largest reserves in the world not counting Canadian oil sands). All of this without having any military interest in the area, seems like a pretty good deal.

Then there's China's Africa strategy where they basically have most of Africa bowing down to them because of all the money and investment they do there, again without the need for any military adventures. More or less they've replicated old Imperial China where everyone just listened to what China had to say and they never really had to send troops to take over countries outside their borders and continually expand (like the Romans for instance).
