  • 2012 Moron Award - Obama or America public?

Before the election I thought that GW Bush was worse leader that had ever come through the White House. Obama certainly had not made high marks but Bush was still worse in my book. Obama has now moved into the top position. At least he dropped that dumbass ‘the 2% have to pay more’ deflection that he harped on for weeks before he ran away to Hawaii. Can you imagine what would have been said if Bush had done something like this? Obama's latest soft-shoe dance is to point to the Congress and blame them. I guess the buck doesn’t stop on his desk. Obama has once again shown that he has zero leadership qualities. Hide, deflect, blame others, run away.

But I think the 2012 moron award goes to the American people. We put the same dumbasses back into office after 4 years of complete impotency and expected different results? Really? The public is even buying into the ‘fall off the cliff’ spin. I guess most are too stupid to figure out this is really called ‘the bills are due’. Yes, we REALLY need to keep paying for 2 million people to get unemployment benefits INTO THEIR THIRD YEAR. We really need to keep supporting ‘tax and spend’ politics.
Business and the economy, regardless of whatever hype the media says, has zero confidence in the next 4-5 years no matter what happens over the next few days. The status quo tone has been set and we are all going to be paying the price for putting these idiots back into office. GG

      Same stuff in the UK.

Our "fair" income tax system taxes most ppl 20% until you earn a decent salary, then u pay 40%, then rich ppl pay 50%.

Fair would be 20% for everyone, regardless.

Oh and we have tons of ppl who don't work, and taxpayers don't want to pay for them, so why the hell.

GOD SHUT UP JESUS CHRIST WE WILL BE FINE god damn all this bullshit about being doomed is so overplayed. if we were so fucked businesses would leave. people would leave. en masse. it's just cranky people that don't want to give up to the nation what they deserve to give up.

how about the fact we pay 500+ BILLION A YEAR INTO DEFENSE? If you honestly think ENTITLEMENT PROGRAMS are what are bringing this nation down you are more shortsighted than I would have ever believed. Look how much goes into those and how much goes into ridiculous things like tax breaks to companies and civil defense and you will see where the true problem lies.

7.5 Billion goes to those in entitlement programs. there are studies that I am far too lazy to look up, but are easy enough to look up that I probably should, that far more people COULD go entitlement and don't than those who abuse the system when they don't need it.

we live in a society that helps those that cannot help themselves. that is the NATURE of American principle. "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

It's time for those that believe they are the saviors of humanity, the wealthy, to contribute as much to this nation as those they employ (or make money off of, depending on which capitalistic philosophy you adhere to).

So in conclusion, if you think this country is doomed, I would recommend you wait a couple years and tell me then.

So you are ok with giving money to the 2 million unemployed who haven't been able to find a job in 3 years? I am find with helping people and giving them a hand up when shit hits the fan. But if someone cannot find a job, any job, within 3 years then something else is in play. But instead of taxing people who are working hard at subsistence jobs to carry the unemployed, I say either cut them off or make them work for the benefit they are getting.

Again, this is about 'tax and spend' and always has been. The game being played here by the politicians is simply, promise benefits and hope that moving forward the $trilllions in deficit will be absorbed in the future with record growth and monster economy. Obviously you (and many others) are fine with this and there is a chance that this could happen. I have two issues with this approach. First, no one else in the country is ‘allowed’ to run this way. No one can run their household this way nor can they run businesses this way. But we allow the Feds to do it.
Second, who is holding this paper? China. Who has the economy which is growing and will continue to do so for next 25 years? China. I see no ‘boom times’ for the US in the next 25 years. What I see coming is a new and different kind of world economy that doesn’t not have the US sub-economy has the primary engine. I see being crushed under the weight of debt while Washington continues to hand more shit out that we cannot afford.

Did you actually think that because you earned $200k that you were "in the club" and would be spared from the federal government's socialist-communist-fascist evolution? Oh well, at least you have someone to blame, right? I mean if it wasn't a singular body such as the black-face Democrats then you may be forced to deal with the possibility that the system is completely corrupt and broken.
But no, democracy is completely healthy. Politicians work solely for the benefit of their constituents, and everybody should lay down their arms and embrace this wonderful new world, or be forced to.

While those posts I made were made in a complete black out stupor (and to which, I must congratulate myself for their somewhat coherent structure and lack of gratuitous spelling errors), I stick by them. And here's why.

Assistance programs come in many forms, and their complexity cannot be boiled down to a forum post alone. I've done a lot of studying on political economy, so much so that I dropped the study all together to pursue other areas of interest. Each state has separate programs, on top of federal ones, on top of local assistance programs. Beyond that, there are so many rules and regulations, to put it as simply "people that don't want to work" is so incorrect. You have to prove that you left work through no fault of your own, worked for X amount of time, etc. Further, most of this ends within 99 weeks. That's two years. Before Obama, it was 26 weeks, .5 years.

But you know what, getting a job, especially one that provides for a family, takes a long time. After college, it took me 6 months to find a job that was willing to pay me a decent wage. It takes MONTHS of searching, interviewing, travelling, getting let down and built up over and over again. And I consider myself lucky knowing how many friends of mine just ended up going back to school and deeper in debt because they need to extend their student loan payback time (another "assistance program"). So maybe people need some fucking time man. It's not as easy as you would think.

Besides, this is chump change compared the amount of money we could be recovering from things Republicans (and most Democrats) refuse to budge on, like defense spending and tax cuts.

I believe this is pretty well true for Asia, and I think an economist or 'world banker' would tell us likewise.
