I hate to say it but Kazaalite is old and busted at this point. Sure it's great if you need to find a file right now but sometimes the speeds, avalible users and fake frelling files just plain suck.

I've you've got the connection (ie broadband) you would be better off using Bit Torrent. I haven't used kazaa since finding bit torrent because of the speeds and files found there. The Matrix reloaded SVCD? On bit torrent. The Hulk? Bit torrent. Terminator 3/the soundtrack? Bit torrent. New albums that have yet to be released? Bit torrent. And the best part is that there are ZERO fake files.

Click here for a great bit torrent webste

Hopefully I don't get in trouble for posting that

People have been telling me that you can find true dvdrips sometimes, but I wouldn't bother taking the chance. I only use to find the odd MP3, which can be hard itself as the people who host this can't seem to rip a CD properly. Most songs I have gotten have skips, volume problems, or are encoded at a really low bitrate =/ TechTV is a great channel. Too bad I don't get it anymore. I got it for free for three months when new digital cable channels were introduced in Canada a few years ago.
unfin un true. 100 kbs on some movies where I'm downloading it from 10 people. I just select what I want to download at night and when I wake up it's usually done. With kazaa lite you have a preview editor which allows you to see what your downloading (check quality and see if it's even the right movie - song).

Try downloading at 300 to 350 Kb/s. That's just on my 2.5 mbit cable line. Some other people I know have hit 600 Kb/s. That's the speeds I usually get from my DIRECT sources, so I don't have grab pieces from other people which is better because I know I will always get those speeds if I ever need anything again. I also know that it's the real thing, and that there isn't any sort of tampering. The stuff is also rared. A small clip of the movie has been made, usually around 5 mb so I can check quality and whatever there and not have to check 20 mb into the download whether is the right one or not.

Those are usually the speeds I get on Bit torrent Arc, if there are enough seeders. As far as mp3 and dvd quality goes, if it's labled as a dvd rip 9 times out of 10 it IS a dvd rip. Sometimes made for burning on a dvd-rom.

I can't speak for everyone that uses BT, but most of the people on the site I linked (myself included) above rip cds to share using EAC/LAME using alt-present-standard. As of late I've turned into a bitrate whore, so I only rip at VBR.

Kazaa(lite) isn't that bad for sources if you know how to maximize them. Use the K++ client with kazap built in (Speedup sucks. Hard) and set it to find sources every two minutes. Another "trick" is to search for a file until you have around 10 or so sources, start the download, then use the "auto searchmore" to find as many more sources as possible. Every source you find using search is sent to your download. Much faster than waiting to find more sources in the download window alone.

                  To sum it up:
Kazaa= Great for small files or super popular files. No so great with the sheer mass of FAKE files. Finding cd/dvd images almost impossible.
Direct Connect= Great for mass downloading if you can find a sever that has what you want. Unless I'm thinking of shareza.
Bit Torrent= Great for huge files (I've downloaded over 3gig via BT before) and even sharing whole directories in one shot. Second only to the newsgroups and IRC for new files (ie Terminator, Hulk), ZERO fakes usually. The only downside is that your upload is related to your download so if you're on dialup BT isn't an option.

                  -edit-
Btw, I'm downloading the John Woo masterpiece "The Killer" via BT right now, a pure DVD rip w/ english subs. I don't even want to think how hard this movie would be to find on kazaa. Let alone an actual DVD rip and not something else.
                  -edit2-
You don't have to go to techtv to get Kazaa lite. Go to http://www.k-lite.tk for the "offical" kazaa lite page. You can get all of the K++ versions there, a codec pack to play movies and a few other things. Even a reg tweak so people in kazaa can view the files you have shared, but you can still upload (so the RIAA/MPAA can't see what you're sharing).

That's the thing, all these programs rely on senders. Senders as in particular people like you and I. I'm talking about direct connects from T3 servers and such, so I'm basically always assured 300 kb/s and above most of the time. You probably wont my next statement, but the stuff that I saw in Bit Torrent could have been downloaded 3-4 months ago where I go. Great that you guys follow a standard and rip CD's, however they can be found already rip, and pre released sometimes months only. Same with anything.

Usually you can tell if it's the right movie within the first 50 seconds of the movie. I don't have direct sources or people I can get illgeal shit off of. So this thread applys to anyone but you. Don't hate are only methods of downloading cheap porn and music.
