oh this thread reminded me of a joke

Veterenerian's (sp) office, 3 dogs are talking with each other...
1: So guys, why are you here?
2: Well, i've saw a girl playing with ball, and i wanted to chew on that ball so much, that i jumped and accidentally bit off the lil girl's leg.
1: Damn! You're here to be put asleep.
2: Yah well, why are you here?
1: I saw a little boy with ice cream, and i wanted the ice cream so much that i jumped and bit off the boy's arm along with ice cream
3: Damn, you're here to be put asleep as well.
1&2: and why are you here?
3: well, when my owner was washing the floor, she bent over, i jumped on her and fucked her...
1: You're here to be put asleep too, probably...
3: Nah, just to get my nails trimmed.

        EW.
        I like sub space
but i am not a fuck face
but most people in it are...
        me - i didn't get that far.
it's also full of lamers, laggots,
        newbies, eaters, teamers, faggots...
I own them like an ez pie

Sorry ÆNIMA, it does apply to country areas

Letting one's pet roam outside (unless you are with them or they stay in fenced in area) is a bad idea on any level.

As far as stupid cats go...did you know that some cats really do watch t.v. And those that do have a defect in the way their brains process visual information (process it much slower than normal cats who see nothing but the t.v. scan lines).

So anyone who tells you that they have a cat who watches t.v., tell them that their cat is actually retarded.

well, what about cats who have been roaming outside for years and have not caused any damage and haven't gotten hit by any cars?

all the house cats that i've come into contact in my life that also roam outside generally stay within a short distance of their house, the farthest one of my cats has wandered is probably 200 yards, but it'd still come back. in a suburban area i can understand keeping a cat indoors or within a fence

but in my rural streeth the cats are either roaming outside sleeping, or looking for things to kill....there's plenty of prey to keep them busy so thye're not in trouble

occasionally one of our cats would crawl on a vehicle parked in the parking lot next door and just chill, but he never did any damage and usually left when people showed up...

i guess i'm saying that my cats are well-mannered and can handle an outdoor life without any of the risks that you seem to freely associate with

Understood, but to be honest it isn't simply 'risks that I seem to freely associate with'. It the opinion of every major cat organization, vets, and humane societies. Below are a few links,

Hmm... I'm reading this really interesting book on Maine Coons called That Yankee Cat by Marilis Hornidge. (it's autographed by the author too!{$$$}) Turns out, the Maine Coon isn't really part raccoon!!!!! There are many different theories about how this breed came to exist but the one that I found most appealing is the tale of Marie Antoinette's royal fluffy cats who came across the Atlantic with Captain Samuel Clough of Wiscasset, Maine during the French Revolution. It is also speculated that Marie Antoinette's fluffy kitties (possibly what we now know as the Norweign Scogkatt -- closely comparable to Maine Coons) were a gift from the Swedish diplomat Count Axel von Fersen. So romantic. So anyway, the point of this was just to inform you all that Maine Coons are not raccoons. They are two completely different species.

Well, if you would bother to look, you will see the links are from what people consider experts about cat health. Please feel free to provide links to support your position. Otherwise, I recommend that you sit down and be quiet since someone who is critical without brothering to do any work comes across as losing the discussion.
Although I am not a vegetarian, I would be willing to admit that I was wrong if you provide a kazillion links from sources that were indeed considered by most as valid experts.
If you choose to believe what your parents taught you, so be it. If you want to bestudied about a issue and verify an position, please bother to do the work before being critical. If the cat profession and cat organizations I cite are incorrect, then prove it.

In my personal opinion, personal experiences with the subject outweigh what someone else very far away has something to say about the object. That's when I speak in specific terms, and not broad terms.
