i like bass, what's the link to ebay?

TK, i must digress, i think it's better to buy one decent guitar that'll last for years than buy multiple guitars as your understanding of hte instrument increases

the classical guitar can add a punchy side to your poetry, but it'd be easy to do so with a steel string, i still suggest you check out segovia though

Arc, from what I hear the transgression from a guitar to bass guitar is much easier than vice versa. Otherwise, I'd be down for an eBay deal.

            Jason I own many guitars.

My favorite is an Ovation Electric Aucostic I bought last year

If you are worried about the sound then a steel stringed guitar would easily do for the tune you are looking for.

My Guitar, Resonable price, Excellent sound

when I started playing a looong time ago, I started on a nylon string guitar, its definately the kindest on your fingers but the neck is very wide so you may have trouble with large stretches. But, steel string seems to produce more of a "love song" sound. My acoustic guitar is really crap, my brothers is really good, it does make a difference how much you spend on it...maybe get a guitar magazine and check out some reviews on there.

bass, if played properly, is best compared to playing guitar leads for 90% of your songs. on a bass, you don't want to just sit on the exact chords your guitarist is playing... you want to gently hop around to other chords along that scale (unless you're playing ska/jazz/punk, in which case you'll want to walk all over the damn place).

i think you just need a good "learning" guitar to start off on.. it takes years to get good so you need something that you can just jump on and not lose interest from difficulty..

this is the guitar i first started off on many many years ago..
                      http://img3.musiciansfriend.com/dbas.../51/518569.jpg

these are my favorite type of acoustic strings.. VintageBronze Medium Acoustic Strings
                      http://img3.musiciansfriend.com/dbas...0/101051.t.jpg
personal preference of course.. right now im using "country" style acoustic strings on my acoustic-electric; which makes for a interesting sound..

and just basic Boomer strings on my american-made strat electric guitar.. i like these for my electric guitar because i play on some Laney tube amps making the sound too clear and crisp.. i need that bit of grit sound so i choose lower quality thus equaling everything out.. bing

as for the acoustic guitar that i mentioned, it's not bad.. only problem was that the action was too high.. i highly recommend getting a guitar with low action to start off on.. ("low action" means the strings are very very close to the fret board.. "high action" is a bitch to push the strings down when you are first learning.. however, the higher action will strengthen your hands and fingers faster)

also, find out what kind of pick you like to use before you leave the store.. for me, the softer picks are more for soft strumming whereas i use the hardest ones (my favorite for electric guitar) for a more clean cut rougher sound..

all in all, it's your own ear that you need to judge by.. what some consider to not sound good, might be beautiful to you.. and vice versa..

                      good luck,

Jason, I have a redwood acoustic, and damn it sounds great when played right. No clue where to shop for guitars and such online, since we have too many music shops around here to count. I think you should stick with the "punchy" steel strings, too.

I play a Gibson SG gothic. But actually, ive gotten some new pickups (replacing the humbuckers) and a pedal thata llow me to play acoustic.

But, i can simply hit my waah-waah or death metal pedal, and go from acoustic to waah/distort.

consider buying that, in the long run itll save you alot.

my whole setup was 800 (the SG was cheap-from a used store, plus i knew the woner, and it was in bad shape wire-wise, the humbucks were in bad shape ETC)

the waah-waah is my best investement. you can get some trippy/beautiful shit with it and the acoustic pedal

If this is just a phase or a fab, get a cheapo.

But seeing as how you've written so much, and posted it...and already have intentions of putting music to it...I think you're for real...I'd go for something a little better, I bet once you do get music to it that you like, you'll want to record, and you don't want a crappy instrument accompanying you. The accompnaying instrument is just as important as the main focus in a musical piece.

To help you write music, I suggest you look into Finale Notepad or some sort of program that allows you to write music, with sheet music or tablature.

learning to play the guitar by yourself could be a bad idea, if you are planning on doing it yourself, that is.
