HERO - see it now

I don't know how many of you ppl enjoy watching foreign movies, but if it's a good one, it shouldn't matter where it's from.
This one is simply amazing, coming from an excellent director (Yimou Zhang) who has done several other movies like Raise The Red Lantern, The Road Home, To Live and others. His movies are generally dramas, slow but with amazing visual aspects, and highly artistic. I know this probably wouldn't apeal to most, but Hero is about a chinese legend, assassination on a king, martial arts-movie, and that's the thing that should make it easeir on all Hollywood-lovers, even tho the story and characters probably wouldn't matter because it's just so amazingly beautiful movie. Music in it is also perfect, and watching it in theatre is just grand.
Saw it again the other day, and honestly, I could have watched it again straight after.

Yeah i saw that movie last year when it was only available in chinese. Luckily, i could understand it... partially. It was an awesome movie

I watched half of it without subs or dubs. I just couldn't stand it any longer. It's such a fucking beautiful film, and I felt like I was missing out too much. As soon as I find a subbed copy, I'll watch it in its entirety.

i watch foreign movies all the time, 9 out of the 10 movies i watch is foreign...

even some movies that aren't foreign require subtitles because of some of the crazy dialects etc.


oh, and more to the point, i saw a trailer in a theater some time ago from that movie "Hero" i tried ripping it off the Internet somewhere but wasnt succesfull, i dont think it is playing in theaters around here right about now...


edit: I also discovered "The Life Of David Gale" is called: "Zycie za Zycie" in Polish (with dots on top of the first and last Z)

It was a kickass movie for sure I loved the first fight it was awesome, so was the one when the assassins are storming the palace in the flashback.. omg they make 2vs1000 look probable.

The funny thing is I saw that movie and all I could think of was holy shit... that army could kick some major ass!, much like my feeling after I saw Gladiator (and it's epic first battle). Then that same night I saw the Four Feathers, and I thought to myself, how did these British fools ever take over 1/2 the world with this pathetic fighting?

P.S. Hero isn't a Chinese legend.. it's fiction, but as the director says he wanted it to have the FEEL of a legend. The king though is real. If you want something which is more historically accurate watch the excellent film the Emperor and the Assassin, but if you want a kickass action movie with cool artistic parts watch Hero.

The history behind the movie involves the first emperor of China - Ying Zheng. His coming to power is fairly controversial - when he united China under him, he destroyed all the literature and history of the provinces he usurped.

Hero is a film that celebrates him, however, for the fact that in unifying China allows it to move forward and progress as a united country.
