This is going to sound so very morbid...

Coming from someone who's been dealing with depression for years, someone who has attempted suicide, I can't help but respect the man for going out the way he did. Stabbing yourself in the chest... that's no coward's way out. Most people view suicide as a cowardly thing to do. Elliot Smith showed every last fucking one of 'em.

Still doesn't make it okay. I make fun of death a lot, it's kind of my coping mechanism. But even I have enough sense to kill the insensitivity when someone is mourning.
