I've seen the term "Thor's hammer" used in two games, so i thought its not just a made up name for a weapon in subspace. So who/what is Thor?

Actually trivia means three roads in Latin (Tri=three Via=road). The real meaning though, was that wherever three roads intersected in and around Rome, important information would be posted (about politics, wars etc.). So, trivia was actually named for important information, not useless information.
