  • The Butterfly Effect review

Its aight. Aston kutcher was convincing for the majority of the scenes he played, which is amazing, considering the fact I would never actually take him seriously (see 'my boss' daughter', 'just married').

Being scientifical for just a second, the "butterfly effect" basically means that small things that happen in the past can affect the future in large ways. However, in the movie this "butterfly effect" seemingly only had effect on the 4 main characters (and the mother). Completely disregarding the effects on the outside world. Sometimes, the "butterfly effect" seems very specific and not at all on a large scale.

The movie was intriguing enough to keep me interested, but the ending was weak - very bleak and unsatisfying. The flashbacks back and forth serves its purpose, but also made the whole film feel disjointed and have parts misplaced.

5/10 - far more impressive than the -24/10 i'd give for other kutcher films.

Yea, when I saw previews I was giddy for a movie dealing with Chaos Theory. Then I realized its Ashton Kutcher; who's should stick to one thing and one thing only for the rest of his career. That being starring in 'Dude, Where's My Car?' sequels. One of my favorite movies ever. Just to throw it out there and to make my opinion on good movies hold even less weight to everyone; my other favorite movies are 'Big Momma's House', 'Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey', 'Dune' and 'Bad Boys 2'.

Thanks for the review, I'll be sure not to see it.

The Butterfly Effect was a cool movie. Don't over-analyze or you'll ruin it.

It's definately worth seeing for almost everyone.

I saw it today, and I could tell from the previews that this would either prove Ashton's acting abilities...and honestly I'm impressed.

No one ever said that the movie was based of Chaos Theory. There's only a small connection made in the beginning with the little tidbit of information it gives you. It's naive to compare the movie to the actual Chaos Theory, or the main idea of a Butterfly Effect, it's the same as comparing the movie anaconda to every other anaconda on earth. It was a good movie, in my opinion.

            Edit: Effect, not Affect

It looks good on paper, but I don't think it will blow you away. I'll proably rent it rather then spending my college fund going to see it in the theatres.
it makes me sick when i think of it, all my heroes could not live with it so i hope you rest in peace cause with us you never did

that's an interesting favourite movies list. i've never seen dune but i've heard very good things. bad boys 1 was good but bad boys 2 got horrible reviews and i heard it sucked - wanna explain why you like that one? bill and ted is classic no arguments there and big momma's house was pretty funny too though it reminds me a lot of all those other martin lawrence flicks.

edit: dude where's my car? is a nice happy movie, definitely one i can watch many times even though it's stupid.

Seriously, stop dissing on Kutcher, he played his part well. This movie is great, a must see. It represents a pretty interesting theory, plus that one chick is hot in the college scene.
