There's a hack for VB which places a text box at the bottom of the main page of a thread. You can use it to quickly reply to a thread without having to click the reply button, thus it's referred to as the "quick reply" box. Personally, I think you're pretty goddamn lazy if you can't make that one little mouse click.

In vBulletin3 it comes with the quick reply enabled, there is an option to turn quick reply on in the vBulletin Admin Panel options.
