Continuum has a relative small users database compared to other online games. And the basing community isn't really big. So networking is quite easy.
Ofcourse it's hard when you are new somewhere or you just never will get good at playing. But you can't expect things to happen by themselves.
First thing (like when you are in prison) you keep a low profile and look around. See who the cool/nice/skilled players are and who the dicks are.
You don't want to talk to the dicks because they will ridicule you infront of everyone. You just look for the people that other people listen to and are friendly towards people they don't know.
Those people you want to be friends with, because they can and are willing to help you. Get on chats like "base". Never act like you are a little puppy that needs a hug, don't suck up (especially not in public).
The easiest way to get somewhere is to learn wich players play what ship and the commands to the bot. Then ask for captain and don't fuck that up.
Only ask for captain when you know enough people to make a good lineup and pick fast. And be active.
And you don't become a wellknown elite vet without doing something.
Also: Don't forget to get yourself a 5 or 6 characters long dictionary word

Tbf, it's a little frustating when you're new, there are 20 people in go base, and last 3 consecutive games had the same 16 players aranged slightly differntly

Oh, I forgot, try making your name look like someone else's. Nockm is a good person to try because no one reads his whole name anyway. Try using "No one can killl me".

I dunno, it's really annoying when I pick 2 or 3 newbies and we proceed to lose the game.

You lose the game, so what? Winning isn't all. As long as they don't leave in the middle of a match, then its fine with me.
Don't tell me you weren't a newbie too when you just started playing. New players always need to learn to play someway or another. If they want to try some "official" basing, then go base is a good start for them.

                            1. I thought you need to be good first to be able to be washed up. (Fuck, who are we kidding, I'm not born to be humble). Yea man, I used to rule, nowdays, I don't feel like putting all my energy at being best. I could own everyone tho if I just wanted.

                            2. Fucking pussies at the company that's my internet provider want to charge me AGAIN for ONE TIME FEE. W T F !? I told them to go fuck themselves, I'm not paying 50$ again, and they cut my connection. Motherfuckers.

                            What up Zz

I know almost all the names of the 'standard' basers, good, bad and ugly. (I may not know what ship they're all good in, but I can still reconize most of them) This brings up another point, because it is a rather small group of people.... If you mess up, people will remember you and that's a bad thing. Use some common sense, just because someone was spamming to get picked and they get picked doesn't mean you should. Don't worry about getting mvp, this can cause you to do things that gets your team slaughtered.

Like other people said, at least get a short, simi-pronoucible name. (is your in game name viral?)

Zerzera was right on when he said get to know the nice guys.

Well within the last several weeks, ?go base has picked mainly veteran players and thus leaving slim chances for new players or even intermediately experienced players to play and leaving them behind spec.

Yes, we do have lots of players that play in every arena specified to get "known". But picking in ?go base is not allowing the new players to learn, experience, or even show off any of their talents. None of the new players including myself have not had the opportunity to display our skill or even to learn by playing a game in order to get onto a respected squad. Is there anyway that we can improve this and at least get one or two rookie players in per game?

The new bots that allow for the quick 10-12 minute games isn't that long of a game. Many new players wait hours and still don't get picked. Because of the overall quickness of each game now, I really think one new player per team should be allowed to play.
                                next time i'll pick u!
