any1 here use other than defualt keys? And what is it?

I only have a differnt key setup when I shark. Got the repel on ctrl only.

I got key sets for terring and shark. I don't want to need to press two buttons (shift+tab) to mine or port. So i can do it quicker with terr, and with shark, i can play more aggressively.

Since just about the only ship I play is shark.. I set up my keys for mostly
the same reason that Kim did but.
Arrow keys are standard, but
Repel = R
Warp = W
Bomb = Tab
Mine = Tilde ~
Afterburner = Shift
That way, I can do whatever with my left hand,
Pinky doing the mining or what not, while my finger stays right on
the R key for repel, and I can still fly with my right hand.

I like it how this same thread subject keeps popping up every now & then.

Anyway, I just use ` for attaching - the very top-left key (not including the Esc/Function key row).

If I remember correctly, I stole the idea off either Mattey or Mobey I forget which.

What happens when you want to talk while in game and one of your letters is also one of your action keys? I remember switching around my keys a long time ago and that happened to me... or maybe it didnt. fuzzy memory.

I use the default key prefs.

Left Hand
Pinky finger on Ctrl.
Thumb on Alt.
Ring finger on Shift.
Middle finger on Tab.

Right Hand
Index finger on Left Arrow.
Middle finger on Up/Down Arrow.
Ring Finger on Right Arrow.

I also use my middle finger to slide up and use the insert/home/pgup/pgdown/end/delete keys. If I'm terring, I turn off num lock and use my pinky finger to hit insert on the number pad for ports.

I have default, but I kinda swap hands depending on what I'm doing

middle finger on tab
forefinger on shift
thumb on ctrl

I rarely play as a shark or lev; so no need for mines.

I'm getting back into the game a lot more, I have been playing loads recently.

I don't get why people need to change the default controls for playing shark. It's not like the buttons are too far away from each other. I can aptly lay mines, launch bombs and repel with accuracy using the default controls and just my thumb and index finger. Just place your index finger on Tab and rest your thumb on both Shift and Ctrl. I find that when I'm sharking, I need to keep the thumb on Shift because it's also the boost key (or whatever the term was, I forget) and if I need to repel I just press down with my whole thumb on both Shift and Ctrl. I see a lot of people use a different digit for all three buttons when sharking, and I think: why do you need to dedicate a whole finger to pressing Ctrl when you only really use it 2 or 3 times per life to repel?

I understand why you might want a different setting for other ships or for other zones, but for the TW shark, all you need is a finger and a thumb.

Defaults

Right hand:
Index finger - left arrow
Middle finger - up and down arrows
Ring finger - right arrow
Pinky - Insert

For ports and bursts I use my left thumb on shift and middle finger on insert/delete.

Left hand:
Index finger - Tab
Thumb - Top part of my thumb on shift lower part on ctl. (This lets me rep and mine just fine - I'll also use left shift right ctl to rep)

For jav rockets I'll move my pinky to tab and my index finger to f3. (ring finger between esc and f1 and my middle finger on f1 so I can find f3 )
