I picked speedball off the top of my head, Verthanthi, don't look for anything deeper. It could have been Zombies, and the situation was an all Zombies zone. I apologize if it seems like I'm picking on speedball, but any other thing would have fit the same example.

Like I said, I picked the first mini-game that popped into my head (perhaps you should feel proud that the name stuck).
Hmm... just a thought here. At a certain point in TW, the creation of Elim changed how the zone was played, attracted a lot of players and likely helped make TW as big as it is today. What if, back then when Elim started out, a new zone started up that was just a one-hit kill elimination arena? Would that have drawn the players that ended up here?

no because TW is not only a one-hit kill elimination zone, but it's a pub basing zone, a zombie zone, a javelin zone, speedball, levi, whatever zone. it has so many mini games within the big game itself that it keeps you busy. if you're tired of elim, take a roll to ?go art and draw something or have random killing in ?go javs. Perhaps some challenge in ?go enigma or an exciting race in ?go initiald. If another zone were to have started at the same time as elim started in TW that was mainly ELIM, it wouldn't have gone far because TW was still a multipurpose zone (if that's the right term).
of course, my history is kind of blurry. someone correct me if i was wrong.

I've not read the whole thread, I admit... But I don't particularly feel I need to for my opinion... With regards to AI... Didn't the slogan of Subspace used to be "The internet game" or something? "Meet people from all over the world... Then kill them!"... The whole point of this game is to play against people.
You can't have a chat with a bot about the game, or say "ns" when they pull off a sessy move. You can't taunt them or anything... If you want to play against bots... Play an offline game?
Even training against bots wouldn't teach you very much, since a bot would react differently to a human..?
But eh, that's just a thought...G[y]Ro> omfg

I disagree, a bot is an ideal practice partner. Its great for practicing aiming/dodging. Even if it is predictable, it is very repetetive. A lot of deaths occur when bullets are misread, "caught", or other stupid mistakes. When dueling against humans, it is hard to recreate those kinds of situations. But with an AI bot, its a piece of cake.
Also, whoever writes the code for dodging/aiming should release the basic ideas behind it so newer players can learn from it.

Eventually everyone won't want to play SS at all. I hope you know you're all falling into this deep trap that will make you want to use a bot and sit and watch him play better than you ever could.. ponder ponder ponder. I'm not saying that's what you're doing now.. but it'll happen.I dont think everyone agrees with you that tyf is a vet.. eeeeh? (2 tired to type the rest)

Edit: btw.. did you just compare raspi with tyflias? (roflmaoroamroamroam ramroamr amroaomroamraofmlamomarmlol)

Yeah, I thought deeply about it and this my view on Computer AI Players.
Bad idea
We come to play SS/Continuum with international players (As it said on SS BOX Cover - "Make friends around the world, and then kill them!"), that is the whole point of this game. Not to mess with Computer AI Players, we can do that on our own machines with some mini-game thingy.
I apoligize for replying to this thread, all just 1 big waste of time.
And yeah Dock> a computer language debate would be a complete waste of time.
ps: Yeah, Sleepy Weasel is right about me. All my ideas and interests are bad.

Ok. I actually think this would work. A bot first, wouldn't use any more bandwith than a normal person, you could put a bot on the TWsite server. Second, you could change the tiles so that they are actually readable by the bot, and the bot could shoot into tiny holes and ect. There could be a new release of Cont that would make it possible for the server to track the location of a ship, coords and such, which it already does kinda. The Mervbot already has the ability to fly around chase people somewhat. So really, besides the team that would have to be assembled to complete this project, I see no reason it shouldn't be attempted.
And! Just make bot players ONLY able to be spawned in PRIVATE arenas. Then nobody could spawn them in pubs, and people GOTO Pubs for the non-AI play. Of course, a say Smod, or staff bot could spawn a bot in pub if it was needed. I see no reason why this shouldn't work. It could be controlled. It also wouldn't really ruin the game.CD-Rom> I wonder what would happen if you stuck a human into the microwave...
