Coming soon: Trench Wars Nascar League

okay everyone, I have begun work on a new league for Trench Wars, it will be a Nascar based Racing League. a sample track has been placed at ?go indy for you to see what it's going to be like, but i haven't got the spawn settings set yet so you'll be spawned in the winner's circle and you can change ships a few times to get out of their :P

i started a website for the league (yes it's crappy...i'm not good at sites so i used phpnuke) at http://nascarleague.blarglefish.com every once and a while I'll "leak" information out and I'll have polls there for people to vote in to decide what will be a part of the league and what won't. so go there now, current poll is for the ship set that will be used so go vote for your favorite driver!

I was smoking a cigarette outside a bar like a month ago and I was listening to these three dudes talk about Nascar. Now before this moment in my life, I just thought it was a bunch of guys in fast cars driving around in circles, and the winner is decided by whoever doesn't crash or has the best engine or whatever. But these guys outside the bar were talking full on strategies and were so enthusiastic about it it blew my mind.

"Then <nascar name> bumped him on turn 3-"
"Not turn 3!!!"
"Yea! And it shook <other nascar name> giving <nascar name> the go-ahead-"
"Ahh shit!"
"But then <other nascar name> laid low for the next several laps and wam! Drafted then bumped <nascar name> hard on turn 1!"
"AAAAGHHGGGGGHHH!"

They used a lot of other terms that I can't remember, and I was just suprised to hear that Nascar is more than just circle driving.

i understood'm, and nascar does have alot of strategy behind it. picking good times to pit, etc...which is why i'm implementing pits into the game, i'll have a twbot in the arena prizing everyone with a speed downgrade that'll cost you 1% of you're speed every 45 sec's i think....and pitting will restore you to full speed, but at the cost of 7 sec's of sitting w/ a engine shutdown....so you'll have to make a good strategy to get around that, waiting too long could leave you w/o an engine, not waiting long enough could cause you to have spend more time in the pits than you want to

1%/45 secs is way too low, and this wouldn't leave the guy without an engine since integers can't go below 1, dropping 1% at a time (hard to explain).

I suggest 20% every minute or something like that.

it's ez, i have the ships set to 15000 speed, the upgrade is 150, so every time i do a negative upgrade, it will decrease their speed by 1% of the initial. then when they pit they get it all back. and considering there are gonna be like 50 laps per league race...nvm, did some calculations....maybe 2% every 45 sec's would be better, that'd make about 133% total in downgrades if the avg lap is 1 min

Though this idea seems gay on paper i think this will rock.....so sign me up....and neways its a better idea than the SS olympics which im signed up for (even tho itt'll never happen)

For all of you that dont know - major pitting times in Nascar usually all occur within 2-3 laps of each other. (Except green lap stops they can occur anywhere from all on the same lap to even 20 laps after the first pit) but on cautio nlaps, almost everyone pits unless they stay out to lead a lap and get those five extra bouns points

(what im saying is that most pit around the same time in Nascar, so that the "figuring out when thing" is good - thats what a crew chiefs job is to do.)
