  • I know its been said before BUT..

Pls stop letting the newbies who make staff change there name.

    A) Why do they do it?

    B) Confusing to see totally new nicks with <ER> <ZH> behind them.

Sometimes there is a reason for it. Usually when a player gets <ZH> he or she doesn't change their name but then they forget that someone will steal their <ER> name if they don't grab it first. So in most cases ZHs have to change their name when they get <ER> because someone has taken it already.

Easy and valid to get the name back with Er on it if someone has been lame to register it before.

Everyone wants a short dictionary name so it seems. Or people want to change their name to some sorta 'nickname' of their original. Like hey, that was my old name, but now you can call me this! Because everyone calls me this really! (Although they probably don't). Aren't I so fucking great! Either that or something that's whoa so far out man! What a name! Shiet! See I'm so good!

Whatever the real reason, it's the fashion and people just gotta be trendy ya see. And it is their right to do so. Getting staff / being promoted is the chance for them to do just that.

This comes at the expense of the familiarity of staffers, which probably produces distrust and other such ill feelings. Staffers are meant to be respected people, and you can't have that if their under the cloak of anonimity. This includes name-shortenings too (the original nick will only be readily apparent to friends).

Good reasons to change your name:

          1. During your time as staff, you don't want to be bombarded with PMs by people who made friends with you just because you were a staff member. Time to wipe the slate clean and just say nothing to anyone from now on, peace, ahhhh.

          2. Your name is absolutely ridiculous to start off with.

          3. Someone hacked your name, or your <ZH>/<ER> got poached already.

Of if you're like me, you just don't go with your full name and then an <ZH> and <ER> tag because it's so damn fucking long, and plus Paul O <ER> fits perfectly in the chat (meaning there aren't two >> whenever you type something).

Since you're most likely talking to me I'll just address you directly acidmouse:

The only reason I changed my name to Fit <ZH> when I joined staff was because Fit of Rage <ZH> seemed a bit too long. People could still recognize who I was after the switch. I do agree that changing your name altogether is kind of silly though.

making it shorter is cool, changing it altogether is gay and unneccessary
                fit <zh>, nockm <zh>, paul O <zh>, rodge <zh>, all good.

That's my number one motivation behind wanting to change my name. At this point, I don't even care that everyone is still going to refer to me as either J/Jas/Jason/syc/syc0 regardless of a name change. I just need to get away from the constant, "HEY JASON! WHAT'S UP BUDDY?! WILL YOU HOST <INSERT EVENT NAME HERE> FOR ME SINCE WE'RE SUCH GOOD PALS, AND WE'VE KNOWN EACH OTHER FOR ALL OF A WEEK! THANKS SO MUCH! YOU'RE MY BESTEST FRIEND IN THE WHOLE WIDE SPACESHIP UNIVERSE!"
