  • Hosting multiple events - not such a great idea?

This weekend, and today, I've noticed a lot of Event Referees hosting events at the same time as other ones. I don't think this is a good idea, since it forces me to choose, and makes it so there aren't as many players at either event, and everyone knows events are the most fun with as many players as possible, in most cases.
    The pleasure's all mine.

Well, we have some new ERs who are eager to host, which is a good thing! I say let them host whatever whenever. It's not like you won't be able to play the event next time. :P

Well, maybe we could convince PL or whoever is in charge of the Poll forum to put up a poll as to how many events should be hosted at a time. ...? ...Two at the same time is better than nothing. :P

Louis, what if the event you wanted to play wasn't hosted at the same time but the next day? Then you would have missed out on that event if we all died.

But what if two events, both of which I wanted to play, were hosted at the same time, then the one that I didn't play was hosted the next day.

Anyone in staff should be able to host any time they want, given it isn't taking away from TWL / TWDT / Weekend Events.

More people hosting at once only means more variety for players like you to choose which one you want to play. I doubt you like every event in TW equally. Also, I rarely see this happen except during peak hours where there is enough players to go around to have more than 1 event at a time.

But sometimes there AREN'T enough players to do it with, and they still go ahead. I'll concede that if there are enough players, they should host them, though.

Some ER's would wait for other ER's games to finish before they advertised their own, this works to both ER's advantage. The one hosting the new one gets more people, the one hosting the game finishing doesn't get everyone leaving, killing whatever game it was. (Especially bad during basing, once went from 13vs13 to 5vs5 when Wark sent out add for zombies.)
All I'm saying is its nice if people would ask, and time their games so people don't have to choose. Thats not always possible (and thats ok, not everyone likes every event), but I believe that the system of hosting events works better that way. Especially if both are popular events (I think I recall once upon a time there was one game of zombies... started partway into another game... of zombies.)

you don't like multiple events because it forces you to choose? Shut the fuck up. It's people like you that don't deserve to vote. heres a shocker, not everybody likes dm, or basing, or whatnot. ERs run multiple events in order to do the best they can to please EVERYBODY, and not just some moron who can't make up his mind over warpwars or hunt.

But my main point was that it takes people off of games that barely have enough people to begin with sometimes.

Well, it used to be that we'd host Zombies only on the weekend and/or IF there are more than 600 players playing. That was to ensure that there would be enough to show up, and cause it was a special event.

The only time I've ever seen a poor showing to any event I've hosted was when it was about 1am PST. I've figured that it's not a good idea to be hosting around that time for the majority of SS players are probably passed out (US) or still in bed only to be getting out of bed in the next 2/3 hrs (Euros). I

I guess what I'm trying to get at is that most staffers should have a general idea when to host and when not to host events, when it comes to obtaining and keeping players for an event.
