I have been playing for few years but never noticed this (i found it on http://beginners.subspace.net/tips.php)

Your own bullets can't hurt you, but your own bombs hurt bad if they explode close to you. When you do this it is called "closebombing" and the more damage you take from your own bomb the less damage your enemy takes, so look out! Only use bombs from a distance. Bullets are for close up dirty work.

is that true - doesnt look to me like that - or is that optional arena setting?

Yes, it is true, but it doesn't affect TW so much. In SVS it is extreme.

It's true, when sharks are close and mine you dont die, and get called a lagger, same goes with jav bombs, if the jav is close and bombs you, you wont die when having enough energy.
It seems many don't know about this since the word "lagger" is used allot in occasions like this.

Of course it's true. Play baseelim. If you fire into a corner less than one inch from your ship, you'll get hurt a lot, and you're not likely to kill anyone. But if you fire in that same corner from half the screen, anyone near it will get hurt much more. I've always thought it was because the bomb was going faster, but I guess this definition makes sense.

Another way to test is in Levi. If you're in pub in a levi and a warbird is right next to you, and you shoot a rock that you're nearly touching, that warbird will survive. But if you were about 500 pixels back, and shot the same rock, not only would that warbird die, but you might get someone else too. It's the truth.... And now I know why.

Back when weasel had more energy, you could sit directly on top of a near stationary jav/levi up on roof. they fire... and it misfires.

It makes sense in ?go javs cause people pass by you in the spawn area going up to base and right as they come over you they shoot and it takes practically all of your energy but doesnt kill you. I always thought that it had something to do with distance or something.

is it directly proportional though? IE if a bomb damage is 4000, and you closebomb so that your own ship suffers 3000 damage, does the enemy get hit with EXACTLY 1000?

I found this interesting regarding javing... it can go here, cause I don't think it warrants a thread for it.

Star Kitty and I were dueling eachother in ?go #vortex the other night. Then a bit into it, she fired a bomb at me, missed, and I immediately struck her with an ass bullet. She didn't die and then I just chalked it up to her 56k and kept going when she went "wtf?"

Well, apparently, in #vortex, if you fire a bomb and you get hit with an ass bullet you won't die unless the shot is a bit delayed from the bomb firing.
