sorry, but this idea is pretty dumb.
if you need to give prizes for staff to make their job, then maybe you got the wrong staff...

in other words, just kick staff who doesnt DO their JOB which is hosting events.
and instead of publish a contest, just secretly give bonus (like 100$) to those who do their job as right as they should.

i thought the whole idea of bein staff is to volunteer. my friend wanted to do it for free, he will do a good work, but go a head and give money for those who are lazy.

I agree with Farscape on this one. I think it would be a good idea to look at those that hosted a lot before this prize was offered and look at those who decided to try to be a great host now and kick those people from staff. If it takes a prize to make a staff member do a job that they volunteered for it is time for them to leave. I would agree with staff members that consistently do a good job should be rewarded. It is a good idea but I fear some will take advantage of the situation for personal gain.

this is fun, but cundor and farscape have the right idea. As cundor said, if this gets out of hand, then it could concievably go to that extreme (although I have faith that staff won't let it happen). I agree with farscape, in that being on staff shouldn't be people who are inactive and who need a money prize to motivate them, but should be people who enjoy the game, are willing to commit to do their job, and are interested in making the game more fun for everyone involved, not just themselves. although I admit to not knowing everything that goes on in staff, I have noticed that staff has been growing stagnant more recently, and up until this recent thing, hosting was rapidly going downhill. funny how money solves problems, isn't it?

(Also, the people who are hosting have no sense of variety. I mean, I enjoy zombies in TWcity as much as anyone else, but three times in one day? come on! I haven't seen anyone host UFC or bug yet (although wark did host goldengun, and that made me happy). With this money thing, it might help to have variety of events hosted as part of the requirements, but that's just me >.<)

The top host for Sept 2005 had 52 recorded adverts. If you assume that an advert is followed by an average 30 minutes of hosting, then thats 26 hours of hosting. Last month there was no reward other than a warm fuzzy feeling for 1st place, but if there was a $100 dollar prize, then that would equal out to 3.85 dollars an hour.

I would guess that due to increased interest, the number of hosts for the win would be higher than that. I really don't think this is something people will do and win for the money.

What the fuck is this bullshit? I know plenty of people that would love to host for free. I've talked to some people in game and i'm pretty sure everyone would like to be staff. You could just hire some new people and I know that they would host more than everyone. Just naming a few people

Staff does host/answer questions/deal with cheaters for free. If you host solely for the money, you would be disappointed. I would guess anyone really wanted to win, wants to do so for the ego more than the money.

Guys, don't make assumptions that the current TW Staff will host and do work for the betterment of TW for the sake of money. The money was solely Pure_luck's idea as a thanks for the work that current staff puts into hosting games for all. Asking around, not a lot of <ER>'s are hosting more than usual, just doing the ordinary. If you question Mithrandia's drive to host so much, we should dig up his <ZH> stats which will reflect the kinda guy Mith is. He's just nuts, but not for the money.

Thats true, I became an ER to host, i dont need any money at all, considering i make more than that in one night of work in tips
