Where is all the basing at? Base is started rarely, or at least is dead more than it's not and public arenas don't resemble actual basing anymore. The only way you can base consistently is to be in a TWBD squad and have BD's (which aren't always easy to find).
Public arenas used to resemble league basing, that is why the better basers/league basers would still at least show their faces in there and base for a while. Now with the tiny weasels and the mess that we call pub 0 you never find any good/league basers in them. Big thanks to upper-staff who DON'T pub at ALL so they have no idea what the pubs actually need, which wouldn't be a problem if they were open to suggestions but DoCk> made it clear he's not by saying he's going to veto anything and everything that is brought up to him through TWPS that has to do with public arena settings.
The ?go base arena is the only place you can go to get into a good game of decent basing (most of the time). The main problem is that ?go base is dead more than it is running. Elim is automated, why not base?! I'm sick of the old excuses that you'd need captains and stuff. There have been TONS of suggestoins of how to take care of that. Why not start trying them out?! If upper-staff is going to screw with the pub settings when they don't know what it's actually doing to the gameplay the least they can do is automate an arena for people who want to base, like elim.
