Funnily enough, I think Thix made an interesting point which was overlooked. He spammed using squadmessages. And these are just mass PMs.

1. PMs are outside of TW Staff jurisdiction
2. Squad messages are just mass PMs
3. So 1+2 = Squad messages are outside of TW Staff jurisdiction too?

Can a staffer confirm the truth of #1? I've always assumed it is true.
If #1 is true, shouldn't #3 be true too?

I mean, what if you are the only person in the squad (for example). Then it really is basically a PM. So would that be legal?


Anyway, I'm also open to the possibility that illegality of squadmessages is down to discretion (AKA making rules up).

pm towards one person are usually just treated by ignore since staff will have no evidence about it. screenshots/logs can be easily manipulated. however, squad messages can be viewed by multiple people, including staffs who are squadjoined, thus providing evidences if any squad spam was to occur. So like what rudy said, if your squad is getting spammed, you are more than welcome to invite a staffer to join temporary, and laugh all you want kaw, but it has happened before all the time.

No, we can't protect every single ?chat out there nor can we start claiming random chats off the biller so to avoid the bullshit leaving it alone is the best option. No TW rules do NOT apply to ?chats, unless they're marked local or staff.

Staffers are allowed to warn-ban for it as a last resort and only if they're subverting the ?ignore command by switching names. I have had to warn twice for this and the players stopped soon after. I haven't heard of further trouble from either squad.

I can see where you're going with this, banning from TW does not stop them from spamming the squad from another SSC zone. It's just my opinion but the private chats are a big part of the social struture on this game, it's mainly why so many people stay on SS. If we start imposing our rules over something we have no control over and something we have to share then 1: We will lose a great number of our population 2: the boycot of TW will be hyped beyond belief, killing our population further and risk another DDoS attack 3: We plainly do not have the staff numbers to do it AND 4: Nothing we do locally will have a great effect since most chats are connected through the biller.


As for squad spamming it shows malice and intent to me and it is an abuse of their privileges on this zone. There's also the fact that you can leave the chat if needed, if you're getting squadPM spammed leaving your squad is not always an option nor is it desirable to do so.
the least staff could do is try to make it a better place around here. It is a weird way of running things I'll agree with that but SSC is slow to change.

tw policy right now is that we dont do anything from cross zone spamming.. tho i have seen cases where people from other zones got net banned for it.. so who knows, maybe we will change it if it becomes more of a problem.
