Years ago as a kid, I used to play in LAN games as Polar - don't really remember where that came from, I think it had something to do with polar bears. How unique. When I eventually started doing stuff in internet, at first I used some really dumb nicks I just quickly came up with because oh gosh, can you believe Polar was already taken in [insert any online community here]? After a while I realized I needed a more unique name that I could use consistently. Polari is probably the most common way to pronounce polar in Finnish (not completely sure about that, but it sounds ackward anyway) so I just added the i. That seemed to be enough and eventually the name stuck.

I used to play MUDs way back in college starting in 1992. Initially I picked the name Scanner - no idea where that came from, but at some point I got banned from my primary mud so I needed a new name and picked the name Geraden, which was a character from a book - the Mordant's Need series by Stephen Donaldson which I guess I had just read. At some later point in time I got banned again, so I had to make a new character name. I figured Jeraden was similar enough to Geraden that people would still recognize me in the game. I ended up liking it better with a J than a G anyways and thought it was a pretty unique name so I ended up using it for everything ever since then.

One of my previous names was volcom chick (ughghghghghghhghghghg) from like 5 years ago.. anyways, people called me volcs. When I realized how gay/stupid it was to have "girl" or "chick" on the end of my name I needed something to swap with that people I actually liked would recognize...

Now I actually have volcom, but i still play volcs most of the time.

hmm there was a shield called "The Ward" in the game Diablo 2, that was considered to be elite when i just started that game, which was about 6 years ago. So it just popped in my head, and that name seemed neat too.
