The guy was a real moron about it, practically warping from one location to another and plenty of people saw it. I did a ?cheater call, and slowly (as is usually the case) a moderator came strolling in. The very SECOND the moderator entered the arena, said player went into spec. Minutes later he returned to playing and not once did he blink in and out. It was painfully obvious he recognized the mod and cut the shit to avoid getting caught.

The police don't stand up in the middle of an undercover sting and say, "HEY CROOKS, WE'RE ACTUALLY THE PO-PO'S AND WE'S COMIN' TO GIT YA!" The exact same principle applies here. Cheaters may be dickheads, but they're not stupid, at least not so stupid as to continue cheating right in front of a moderator.

How hard is it to establish a procedure whereby all moderators are required to keep secret aliases with which to scout out potential cheaters? You don't even have to dish out powers on multiple names. They are on their "powered" (if you will) staff name when they see the in-coming call. They switch to a secret alias. They watch the cheater and catch him/her red-handed. They return to their "powered" name and ban the little fucker.

It's such a simple idea, so simple it's common sense. I know there are a very select few moderators out there who already do this. Everyone should be required to in all cases, no matter the circumstances.

or 1 staff member (powdered name) tells the <ER> in staff chat or pm or w/e...that he ischeating, and they warn him. yay, this way they dont give out aliases.
      the price is right, bitch.

        Uhh
We don't warn cheaters. We eliminate them.

I think there should be implemented a new command for moderators+

            *hide

:Removes moderator from arena players list.

Yeah, aliases would get pretty out of hand.

If this were possible, perhaps one mod could go aliased and communicate with another mod? The first would watch and confirm, the second would simply come in when the first had seen enough and do his thaaang.

I'm sure there's at least 2 on at any given time..

The main problem is not revealing Moderator names with cheating since in most cases comunication is not needed and we don't warn them. It is a problem with other cases like tking, racism ect.. the Mod names are revealed. That would work, having ERs and some Mods do the warning but it isn't very efficent or effective.

Maybe we could change the *warn command so it doesn't tag your name at the end and if that can't be done then maybe a Bot could be setup for warning players. A bot for low level bans is in the works that would cover the entire biller. In the end people will find out Moderator names no matter what, they still have to talk to people in some cases and some staffers will leak it anyways so I think Jason's idea will be more effective in the long run. If we need someone to organize it we have two deans now and if more Smods are needed I can think of 3 people who would do an excellent job.

I think ASSS has an option to hide playernames from the list so if that project gets a little more professional and useable maybe it would solve a lot of our problems.

I don't agree with hidding names on the ban notice. It could lead to abuse. The only option here would be either to use an invisible mode that would make mods name unable to appear in the arena names list, or if the mod was on his alternate hidden alias that the notice would appear in the formal alias not the hidden one, otherwise the mods would be changing alias everytime they banned someone...

I'd basically explained to the staff on hand today as a direct result of this thread what I had planned for this year.
This, and half a dozen other ideas have been in the works since a few days before DoCk> lost his connection late last year. I am waiting on him to give it, and a few other key issues the thumbs up before it kicks in because ultimately he has the final say, being the owner of the zone and all.
Given that this is probably something we should have been doing since day one, I don't think that he will knock back the blueprints I sent him for what I dubbed the New Year's Resolve.
Previously we were taking the soft-cock approach that believed the novelty of hacking the client would wear off and you would be happily rehabilitated a short time later. But an increase of such malicious activity has led me to believe that is not a viable solution any longer.

Ideally, I had hoped that this issue would not be bought up. Since my intention is not to let cheaters know what measures staff will now undertake to catch them. But since it's in the open now, know this: You will be thoroughly fucked in the anus if/when you are found out. Even the female moderators will be wearing standard issue 12" strapons. Figuratively speaking.

It's a great idea Jason, I've seen countless of TK'ers who stops the moment a mod comes into pub to watch after I .?cheater.

                          Finally a good idea.

EDIT: To the mods that reads this, keep ignoring Wards help calls.
no he doesnt you idiot, and you dont know jack shit. it certainly cant be any of a natural lag, since he spikes at the moment he's about to get hit, while at other times his tinfo is normal. and i've seen other players complain about it too, so it just needs to be dealt with.

I know a magician isn't going to tell the crowd how he's doing his tricks, and that's how it should be. I apologize if I've brought too much attention to the situation and/or your plans, Rudy. I simply thought this to be thread-worthy because it's such a basic issue, one requiring such a basic response that I can't believe nothing's been done for so long.

I don't want to get into it further though because we'll all just be rehashing an age old argument about chain of command and getting shit done. Rodge and qan have carried that torch for thousands of miles already.

Now it doesnt take much to quick key a stop to any running programs as soon as staff shows up, so perhaps staff shouldnt always be so OBVIOUS if they are actually attempting to catch someone in the act. Changing your name to one less noticeable doesnt really require much effort...
