I've been having some lag problems for the past few months, specifically either extreme s2c (11.0% and up) or high ping (400 ms+) I'm wondering if anyone has any practical solutions other than "get a better isp" because frankly, theres nothing better in my area (which is sad.) I'm currently on cox cable in panhandle florida. Suggestions? anyone? thanks

(this should probably go under tech support, but more people browse this forum anyway )

how in the hell do i do that? i know my cable provider is capping the bandwidth to a sliver of its potential, so how do i fix this by messing with my modem? (i really dont want to break anything or go to jail at this point )

I had a T1 connection at school and I would get Packetloss every time I tried to play. Now I use a 56gay, excuse me 56k, and it actually does better. Soon as Cable or DSL comes down to a reasonable price I plan on getting me some of that. Try your 56k, who knows it might work just fine.

Like in another week I am supposed to get dsl and I currently have 56k. I don't know if this works for Cable but I use to have to wait a few seconds before pressing play and the ping goes down. i stopped doing that and lag went back to like 420 ms. But I deleted a phone number for Net-zero and I am getting 290's now. But for the ploss problem, I can't help you there so sorry =/

Overall a very good value. OOL is now going through growing pains related to its growth into other markets and expansion of its customer base. OOL is also suffering from the pressures of its Parent Company (CVC) to resolve a large funding gap it has. This has resulted in upgrades to existing areas not being done in a proactive manner but rather one where it the problem has hit the fan and must be resolved.

Communication needs to be increase. Ofter customers are not told about changes in company policys (upload cap) and what the rules are of these changes. This leads to confusion when one tries to determine if his or her usage is violation of the new changes. OOL also needs to work on a system that allows one to become aware of scheduled downtime in ones area.

I have a program that changes the registry to optimize my connection. It took my lag from insane to reasonable. It might help, unless you have Win ME, which it doesn't work with. E-mail me if you want it.
