Comrades!
The fine game we know as subspace will be 10 years old very soon. Although the actual release date for SubSpace as a commercial game was November 1997, the game itself began sometime in the Spring/Early summer of 1996 with public betas.
I have a couple of questions:
1) does anyone know the exact date that the experimental game "Sniper" turned into SubSpace? Sniper first appeared in the Autumn/Winter 1995 as an experiment to test online gaming. However, it proved so popular that VIE decided to develop it into a full blown game, and SubSpace was born. I think SubSpace entered public beta sometime in April or May 1996 (I started playing mid-may 1996 as a beta tester). Someone must have a better idea when...
2) Are there any celebrations planned for SubSpace's 10th birthday? I'm planning on celebrating (if thats the right word) my 10th anniversary in may - maybe with a Subby barbecue (depending which country I'm in) and a tattoo
All in all I think SubSpace is aging very well, considering it was one of the first massively multiplayer online games!
