I hate to pull this card, but you really should be thankful that you can get lost passwords back at all outside of the ?lostpassword command.

I've used the lost password form a few times, and it took a few days each time, but I always got a reply back with my password.

If you let Zerzera log in with your name, then what do you expect? They compare the ip, macid, timezone, and some other crap. If none of it matches, of course he's not going to give you the name; as far as it looks to him, you're just trying to steal someone else's name.

I have no idea about the situation with Pointman, but it looks like the only reason he gave you the password was because you had a TW sysop backing you up on the issue. I believe a similar thing happened with Bahamut <ER> and Rejected Basers.

One thing that will never change, is being able to change your email.

Being able to change your email with a command, would make the ?lostpassword command completely useless. When someone "steals" a name, they could just change the email too, so the original person can't get it back.

Well like Kolar suggested there would be an email validation system. So if someone tried to change the password to an alias in-game a confirmation link would be sent to the email, and I don't think anyone is stupid enough to share emails. This may be a good idea, but I don't think it'll be implemented any time soon.

O Never in game was i given the chance to change the email address to one of my own after i realised the importance of this.

I recall there was a time when you could change your emails on all names, but that was just for a very short period. I wonder if that was when we moved the server?

Yes Stab, i am thankful and i did get a sysop to back me, but i shouldnt have had to. Had we have had a tw biller op, he would have know endangered was my name and would have given it straight back, i mean why does the biigest zone not have an active biller?

My idea was about validation, obviously changing your in-game email would be a little harder but really a simple hotmail or yahoo account isn't gonna be lost by anyone and is easily retrievable. We also don't have a biller op in TW (only one person is given authority over aliases, even though some zone staff have the access) but we do have staffers who are lvl 1 to issue network bans with DoCk> absent.

There isnt a way of checking what email account you used to signup with... That would be helpful...

A system where you had to reply to a comfirmation email at your old email address before you chould switch to a new one would be the best.

However i would say the liklyhood of this ever being impletemented i think is nil.

In this situation you didn't get your name back because the biller ops give names back to the people who are last on the name. Since you weren't last on the name it wasn't yours. No matter how long you own a name for its always given back to the person who used it last. So if zerzera did a lostpassword form for the name he would have gotten it back pretty quickly. The real problem resides in you trading names in the first place. If you are that careless with your names then you don't really deserve them back.
