I really should leave this at "-nt-" because the title says it all, plus I'm pissed and will probably say some things here that I'll regret later, but here goes nothing. Those of you who dislike ?go base, steer clear.
After watching the goings-on in this arena for some time, I'm convinced that staff just doesn't give a shit about it. A staffer rushes in once "?help please start base" is received, fires the bot up, two random fucking idiots call for cap and get it, and the staffer leaves. I tried talking semi-sensibly to staff about this and got the usual run-around: a RoboHelp message from the staffer who started the bot telling me "not to use ?help if I didn't have a legitimate question", and a "it's not that big of a deal" from a higher-up.
That's fucking bullshit. If base was dying due to inactivity it would be one thing, but it's dying due to general ineptitude, both by the captains themselves and by the staffers who set the captains. I'd rather see base not started at all than have to sit through some of the games I've watched in the past few days. 35-40 people were in spec at the start of one particular game in which "ImABaser" and some other idiot got cap. This game then struggled to even get underway as neither captain seemed to know how to add players. When it finally did start the caps were using the game to practice pub-style jav shots. Players were leaving left and right, and by the time 10:00 rolled around on the scoreboard 6 total people were left. Gee, I wonder why.
I'm not calling out any particular staffers here, but I will say this: I'm urging you guys to PLEASE use some damn discretion when you set captains here. Situations like the one mentioned above can easily be avoided by not capping someone that: A) obviously does not know how to cap, or B) has experience captaining and really fucking sucks at it (i.e. ckpoon or TaMaHoMe). Nothing against them as players, it's just that TaMa blows all 10 ship changes on himself every game and ck takes 5 minutes to add somebody. Enough is enough, fucking salvage what's left of your reputation and at least act like you give a shit.
