Flabby, Creager isn't an idiot, he knows what he's talking about. He's talking about the stack and page protection on a RISC processor.
Thats not the main reason macs are more secure....Stack and page protection is possible on x86 . But most "worms" at the moment in windows reley on the user stupidity in windows to open exe attachments in emails or from an IM.

The majority of exploits on windows are so damanging because the user is an administrator so any program running in the user space (by the stupid user) can do what it wants. The OS not the hardware is the biggest factor at the moment.

I think the move to use x86 chips will benfit apple greatly, for starts it makes it far easier for people to port applications to macs - and from what i have
herd the performance on these new macs is phenomenal, even if u just buy one to put windows on it ^-^

The only thing left that uses PPC is the PowerMac G5.

And Apple filed for a trademark for the name: Mac Pro
So we know what that one will be called when it switches over too.
In August we get the WWDC, and it could be announced there, alongside 10.5 Leopard.

What I wonder is if the iMac will become the Mac, and then the big desktop the Mac Pro, or if there will be a junior sized desktop that'll be the Mac.
Macbook Pro with a 17" costs almost 3000e in Finland. Everything else is at least +300e compared to US prices..

Odd. Very Odd. That's about a $1000 price difference.

That's the kind of price difference that a person could fly here, buy one, and fly back, and spend the same amount of money.

One would think that could open some kind of money making opportunity.

          Macbook:
          1.83GHz Core duo: $1099 = 862€, if ordered from Fin Apple store it costs 1129€ = $1440.
          2.0GHz Core duo: $1299 = 1020€, if ordered from Fin Apple store it costs 1328€ = $1690.

          Macbook Pro:
          2.0GHz Core duo: 2039€ = $2600, in US it costs $1999.
          2.16GHz Core duo: 2550€ = $3200, in US it costs $2499.
          17" MBP: 2849€ = $3629, in US it costs $2799.

Even without taxes the 17" MBP would cost $3000 in Finland but there's 22% VAT added... Tho of course ordering from some other EU country would be a bit cheaper. (And the flight to US and back costs a lot, ~1000e, so you are correct.)

Anyways I'm thinking about buying the 2.0GHz white Macbook. I would buy the 1,83 but it has combo drive and you never know when you need a dvd burner... I was thinking about getting 80GB HD to it and 2GB memory but Apple seems to take +500E if I would buy the memory from them. Wtf is that shit?

Do not buy your RAM from Apple.
Repeat: Do not buy your RAM from Apple.

Buy it from Crucial, it doesn't void your warranty, and you can get Crucial RAM with a lifetime warranty. I.E.: It's good shit, and cheaper than from Apple.

Wow, did you buy the memory from Apple or what?

I just ordered the 2.0GHz Macbook with 80GB HD, cost me 1378€ = $1773. Tho now I have to order 2x1GB memory modules. Probably going for the cheapest ones I can find (Twinmos).
