Look. All of you guys who are thinking we ban people because Trench Wars Staff gives a shit about some 15 year old saying the N word because it is funny to them, you are wrong.
Now read closely:
The reason why we have chosen to enforce certain rules against racism including disallowing certain words or phrases is because we do not condone that type of behavior in the game.
We have certain rules we set up in the zone. Such as teamkilling, spec hunting and other rules that were created to make the zone better. We decided to tighten the enforcement the racism rule because it really got out of hand in 2000-2003 (I believe). Suddenly becoming racist was a trend and people were calling other people different racial slurs because it became a verbal weapon that many were unprepared for. Before then, it was mainly just insulting players with taunts about their playing level or other aspects. After the racial "verbal" weapons became popularized, many complaints were submitted against those offenders. Staff suddenly got flooded everyday with different complaints about people breaking the rules. Before then, an occasional racial joke or racial slur was uttered as a very very crude and low class way of entertainment for certain groups.
If you haven't noticed, there is still heavy racism going on in the game regardless of the rules or not. Sometimes when I warn people for certain things completely unrelated to racism, they will PM me calling me racial slurs and other things. Many people can not respond to something like that because it affects someone in a completely different way. If you were to resort to name calling or other ways of taunting, most people could ignore you. But when you start calling someone out with very ignorant and even racial ideas, it is very hard for people to just simply ignore that. Most or maybe even just some victims of racism will not combat people with racial slurs because it would make them at the same level as the offender. If you knew someone who raped a friend, you would not rape the rapist's friend because obviously, they most likely would not be as hurt as you since they would stoop so low.
A system had to be inplace where these hate acts would be eliminated. There are TRUE racists among us all (not saying everyone who utters the N word or other retarded comments are racist), and these racial slurs/actions cannot be tolerated in a game that claims to be a family game with any moral standards. You are not allowed to post nudity on the gallery; You are not allowed to have racial names or utter racial slurs that can affect the general public (people who aren't even targeted for the certain racial words). That is why we do not enforce Private Messages or Chats that have constant racial motivations. Many people feel uncomfortable with racial actions and would rather prefere to play in an environment where they would not have to constantly ?ignore other players that say racial statements.
For all of you people who say that we do not enforce racism against the caucasian population, that is untrue. I have been banned before for Private Messaging a moderator (in 2000). I called the moderator a "stupid white girl" and received a week ban. There are many cases of staff enforcing different types of racism.

For those people who dislike the way we handle racist calls, the reason is, we are not perfect but we try out best. Personally, I would not ban people for saying just racial words such as the N word. Sure it slips out for some "unknown reason" and personally, the word has become so overused that the true meaning behind it is gone (just like when people call each other "faggots" You do not really mean that the person is gay, but instead you think they are an idiot). But unfortunately, I have seen many cases where these words (if left unenforced) turned for the worse. Let's say you call a player a "*****". After the word is completely ignored as it has no affect on the other player, the offender then begins elaborating on more racial things that are not cool. Telling someone that you are going to hang their family for being a certain color is not really a punishment fit for the crime. I know in certain cities, that type of language is actually illegal. Someone using the letter N with some racial slur, may be funny to that player, but most likely, another player will take that and say something very offensive that is not funny at all to anyone. I take offense to anyone who calls me a *****, tells me to shut the fuck up and says a racial statement or anything else that has absolutely no basis. I've seen players go as far as threatening to kill another person in real life, demanding for their address and other threats because the person "lamed them in elim?" It is pretty pathetic in my opinion and should also be outlawed.
I will not tell people that they are wrong in their opinion on the racism policy in Trench Wars. But you are fighting a lost cause. These are just certain rules that will always be enforced in Trench Wars and will never go away. If you disagree with the policy, tough luck. Kids always have to go to school because it is a law. People have to pay taxes from their paychecks because it is a law. You have absolutely no say because this rule has absolutely no negative outcomes. We will not miss your racial statements or "hilarious" jokes.
Personally, if it were up to me, I would ban people who utter very racial statements that do not contain keywords. I know Pure_Luck has done this and it should be done by all the staff members who are intrusted with the ability to ban. It is a judgement that is left to those people who have this ability. There are good employees and less than satisfactory employees in any job you go to. Some people understand the rule, others do not or simply don't care. I would also ban anything that were very obscene (such as someone talking about killing another person in real life with constant threats and other threats that result in sexual assaults on a person's family).
Here are some articles about what the majority of people in America feel is offensive. These are Radio Personalities who were fired or suspended from their jobs for "being too offensive" on a radio station that was privately owned and is broadcasted publically. If you think Trench Wars is strict, think again.

KTRS president and general manager Tim Dorsey came on the air to announce the firing shortly after talk show host Dave Lenihan used the word "coon," a racial slur, instead of "coup" in describing her attributes for the post of NFL commissioner.
Prior to the utterance, Lenihan was heaping praise on Rice, a big football fan, who has frequently said she aspires to run the league one day. But as recently as Wednesday, Rice ruled out applying for the job of NFL commissioner after Paul Tagliabue retires.
After taking several calls from listeners, Lenihan offered this on the air:
"She's been chancellor of Stanford. She's got the patent resume of somebody that has serious skill. She loves football. She's African-American, which would kind of be a big coon. A big coon. Oh my God. I am totally, totally, totally, totally, totally sorry for that.

Troi Torain, Power 105's DJ Star, has been fired by the station after he spewed racist, violent remarks on air about rival Rashawn Casey, aka DJ Envy of Hot 97, his wife, Gia Casey, and their daughter.
A popular radio personality was fired yesterday after making a series of shockingly ugly, racist and violent on-air remarks - including a threat to sexually molest the young daughter of a rival deejay.

As a person who used to think saying racial slurs was funny (and was banned on many occasions), I grew up and stopped being a complete loser. As you read about the history of certain groups who were targeted to REAL racism, you will understand why so many people do not condone any type of true hate acts. This is not including only the Halocaust or Slavery. There is a genocide right now in Sudan where Fundamentalist Muslims are attempting to obliterate Christian African Americans. Many of the people who are slaughtered are not even Christian, but are associated because of their skin color and culture. Most people who commit crimes based on Ignorance usually do not discern who they are actually targetting. This is why white supremicists who call themselves the Aryan race do not acknowledge that the Aryan's originally came from Iran (a middle eastern country). Furthermore, they say that they hate any middle eastern. Very ignorant and hypocritial.
I personally do not have a problem with racist words as it is just a word. However, the misuse of the word by people who are not funny have caused it to become banned in the zone. What you may think is funny, is actually not. Leave the humor to the professionals. Just play the damn game and shut the fuck up.
