    Introduction

First of all, I would like to thank my friend who brought this idea up. You know who you are, and what he said is was the basis for what I made, lower down in this post. Trench Wars can be seen as a business. Businesses usually have a mission-statement or objectives, detailing what their organisation is all about, what they wish to achieve, and what they want to be in the future. Now applying this to Trench Wars, and we can create a direction of where this zone ought to head. Based on Trench War's own 'objectives', this gives staff an opportunity to also improve the zone.

Now, below I have created some objectives for this zone from some of my own ideas, and some from staff and players. I would like to share them with you all to get some feedback of what I could add (probably word it better too). They probably seem pretty obvious to you all, but perhaps not to newer players. Ok, here they are...

    The Objectives of Trench Wars

    Main Objectives

-To maintain the game play focus of this zone; Basing, and to promote it to newer players and establish it within the community (Publics), while not neglecting other aspects of Trench Wars, such as the dueling aspect of Trench Wars.

-To maintain a strong presence of automation in the zone, to ensure smoother operations, such as Hosted Events, Trench Wars Leagues and Tourny. While the Bot System in Trench Wars plays a major role in the zone, communication between Staff and the Player Base is essential. Therefore staff are to converse with players when it is necessary (For Example; ?help calls/Hosted Events/Complaints etc) or at their own will.

-To continue to provide the players of Trench Wars, with exciting and varied hosted events. Popular events are expected to be hosted often, but not to the point where they are overhosted and lose their enjoyment.

    Sub-Ojectives

-To maintain strict procedures with rules and cheaters, while providing some leniency were it is due in some circumstances. Rules will be made clear to remove confusion as to any wrongdoings and unlawful behaviour.

-To ensure that there is sufficient staff online at all times, so that player’s requests and questions can be acted upon as quickly as possible.

-To maintain the competitiveness within the zone, by introducing new players to TWD and TWL respectively.

How these Objectives are going to be used:

Based on these objectives, I am going to try to make Trench Wars orientated towards them. I'll give you an example. Publics have been in a shambles for quite some time now, and being one of the objectives of Trench War's is to promote and establish basing in Publics. Now, this could be done with putting timed games in all Publics, or I had an idea of having a carefully chosen Base Map as the Public Map every (second)weekend. We could also get a Public basing guide up in 'F1' (in-game) or on the Trench War's site.

What I am getting at is, there are many many ideas to which this zone can be improved via these objectives, and I'm not afriad to hear them all.

    Lastly

These aren't finalised yet. I want to hear more ideas, and what you guys think of this idea. How it could be improved, what could be added etc.

    Thanks,
    Mootland Farmer

I find these objectives the most important.

To maintain competitiveness within the zone by introducing new players to TWD and TWL respectively you need a good staff which is online when help is needed. In the end, even new players can use ?help and will ask these TWD/TWL questions via ?help

    -

There will also always be the need to improve the zone, new events, and keeping the bots stable and active staff hosting events is needed for this.

Communication between staff and players will need to get better also =)

EDIT: I find automation of the zone important for keeping the zone alive and get more active players. Because being in a zone with no active objective to do around the clock will reduce the player amount. With different possibilites (Pure Pub, Base, Wbduel, Javduel) etc will motivate players to play the zone.

If you have outlined the smooth operation of TWL as a main objective, you should very carefully reconsider the people who are running it and how little they care. This is the second week in a row that scheduling has been postponed until the middle of the week, and appeals from warpath seem to go ignored all season long.

As for the rest of it, whenever I send a ?cheater it gets handled stupidly, if at all. For example if I am ranking a name in elim I will send a ?cheater and if someone on staff doesnt tell the people that are teaming me that I have complained then some staffer will come in on his staff name to take the call. lol I dont know how covert you think that is but its a pretty clear sign to stop teaming. I would know since I do the same from time to time. Same pretty much applies for teamkillers in pub.

You do not try to provide any leniency where it is due as far as warnings are concerned. A while ago I hit enter too soon while saying good night and it was obvious in pubbots help call but I still got a warning for it.

Well, first of all I want to say that I like the idea of the F1 in-game basing guide, and I think it can be very useful for people who played the game for the first.

I think it was said before, I mean the training or practice arenas. Staff should put Bots into training arenas of some sort and put those private arenas into news that appear when someone logs on to the zone OR put the arena names as a Greeting message for every player that logs in to the zone. Those arenas should also have a limit of players, so training doesn't go into a team based game, that's what the pubs are for.

Add to that making staff serve the players, rather than... whatever they do now, and you've got your number one objective.

True. Lower staff is definitely getting better. The latest recruits are excellent. Upper staff is still pretty messed up, though.

The longer the older guys have been up there, the less they feel obligated to do. They grow too comfortable. I think if we're going to set new objectives they need to be followed by everyone, and if higher staff is inactive or ignoring newer players - what kind of example are they setting?

Either way, I do personally think the current Staff is the best we've had in some time. It seems that people are finally being let on to staff because they want to help TW, not just because they're buddies with higher up guys.

Communication is the most important thing of all. Older guys, staff or not, need to take a little time here and there to help the newbies out. Make the effort, if you see a new spider in base.. don't yell at the cap to sub him - tell him to follow you in spider, do what you do. PM them with tips, and if they seem like they're really trying to learn - get cap next round and add them again. You'd be surprised how many guys I've seen turn into a great baser just because they get added 3 games in a row and encouraged by a few vets.

This sounds more of a method than an objective, strict procedures and rules are there to reduce cheating on one hand and reduce abuse by staff on the other, it should be under a main objective in the spirit of keeping the zone playable.
I hope you will actually be putting effort in this one, because I know there used to be no support on this matter.

Publics are meant to be played in a basing manner. Before TWD, people had mods host matches in private arenas for them. So Basing came first, and is therefore the first focus.
