  • Jason's going to host for you, and he's going to be a slave about it.

    so here's the deal!

i want to start hosting more. i have quite a bit of fun doing it. the thing is, i'm terrible at keeping up with the in-game staff type systems we have for keeping track of who wants what hosted.

now i may get myself in trouble with kim for just outright posting this request here, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

without any more yacking, here's what i'd like to try. i want players to either leave me messages (via the ?message command) in-game OR drop me an e-mail at jsntrmn@gmail.com and let me know what you'd like to see hosted. don't go spamming me with zombies and hunt and all that over hosted garbage. put some thought into it and gimme some real ideas here folks.

i'm going to pool my ?messages and e-mails at the end of each week and pick (depending on the number of submissions i get) at LEAST five events to host back to back to back to back, well you get the point. once i've made my picks, i'll advertize on TW.org for a day or two before things are about to go down. I'll also try to toss out some random zoners here and there a few days prior as a heads up.

so, to recap. you submit me stuff you wanna see hosted. i go bat-shit crazy once a week and be your total host slave-bitch for the evening.

    sound like a plan?

please toss in your comments and (constructive) criticism.

i'm going to try to keep this running as an aside to the stuff the ECT (crazi and Diakka) are doing. I want more shit going down during the weekdays, and I'm hoping this plan will take off and we can have ourselves some fun.

okay, end of post. peace out cub scouts. and watch out for those bobcats. i hear they can tear you to pieces like whoa.

FINAL EDIT: i've decided to do the messagebot thing instead of going with in-game ?messages. instead of submitting ideas via the ?message command, use MessageBot.

i've created a public channel so all you have to do is pm him with:

!message eventsbyjason:<message> (replace <message> with your request)

i'll use that to keep track of who's requesting what.

I think it's a good idea . Like that, if someone thinks of a more complex thing to host with different twists and stuff, it's easier to propose the idea.

the thing is, i want to keep complexity out of this. i don't want to get wrapped up in red tape from the beauracratic staff way of doing things.

i just want this to be a, "hey, jason's gonna host for us. let's do it up!"

keep in mind, there are some systems getting ready to be put into place that are really gonna make you guys happy as far as hosting and host requests. i still just wanna do this thing my own little way though.

so start sending in those requests!

oh wait, i think i get what hakaku might've been saying...

by all means, you can propose ideas that mix it up. you don't just have to say, "i'd like to see ?go javstech hosted." you can come up with the craziest shit imaginable, and if i can physically do it with a bot and the commands at my disposal, i'll make it happen.

              Super Ftw

5 hosted games start with super levs in ?go twisted then move on to some super karting action in ?go mario then ill take a warp to ?go fatbase with two terrs each freq the rest players javs, id sheen over to ?go deathmatch and play super warbirds to 300 deaths then the finally ?go infection with warbirds being the healthy cells vs spids being the bad infections taking control of the body and converting the healthy cells to the dark side but super should be used when infection reaches the upper body muuhahha

Jason, you forget that your ?messages inbox can only hold up to 15 messages (more or less).

I suggest to make a (public) channel on messagebot that can pool all the requests. After a week you can delete the whole channel (thus all the messages) and recreate it for the next week.
Another plus is that you can choose an appropiate name for your channel (like eventRequests) and other ERs can help you by only joining the channel.

I will contact Kyace to ask if we can make a bot that can pool the event requests like I suggested somewhere already.

Perhaps much of the frustration about the lack of hosted events is due to the fact that the chances of an irregular event being hosted when a specific player happens to be on-line is very low.

While public input is a good thing for understanding what people want, planning and scheduling is what seems to be needed. The current ad hoc nature of the hosting is the problem to be resolved.

If there was a schedule with rotated events, players would know the best times to catch what they enjoy playing. This schedule would not have to be exact, something more like "EventX will be hosted at least once between 2PM EST and 3PM EST on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays."

In fact, I love that idea.

I have to disagree. Player requested events can be just as different as you want yourself. Just find new arenas, ask around and request it. The hoster would notice (if a bot is used) if a rare arena has been requested and might be more persuaded to host it.

Scheduling events might seem to work, but it's way to hard to get staff to host certain events in specific times. Scheduled events chosen by staff might not be popular at all so the schedule must be loaded with lots of events to suit the needs of most players. Can you imagine the schedule, the work to get it all going and the work to get the ERs to host events by the schedule?

I like the idea that staff is there for the players, it makes the zone more interactive and closes the gap between players and staff a tiny bit more then before. Why should the staff dictate what is hosted and when?

A solution to all this might be to request an event at a specific time(frame) (optional). This way you still have the benefits of requesting events but you can also specify a timeframe to make sure your friends are online (for example).

Having scheduled events does not preclude having requested events.

It would take effort to develop the schedule and some disipline/commitment from the staff to keep to the schedule. Is this the problem?

Becoming more organized by hosting popular events on a loose schedule in no way means 'staff dictates what is hosted'. Staff would be offering a way for players to understand that the events they are interested are being hosted at certain times. Ideally, the schedule would include the same event on different days and during different times so most players could find the best time for themselves. And ad hoc hosting could always be supported.

The point of a scheduled events methodology is:
                        - run events in a way that prevents over-hosting and under-hosting
                        - stop the event chaos that has occured in the past
                        - allow staff to understand when they are 'on call' to host events so they can plan their off-line lives
                        - spread out the events so players from different time zones can play them

don't really get this, why not ask a staff member in game to host something and let him decide instead of messaging/mailing you?

i'm on in very infrequent spurts so it's hard for me to catch players online to have 'em tell me what they want to see hosted. i want to do this pooling thing and then some tuesday or wednesday night, go at it!

i also decided to do the messagebot thing instead of going with in-game ?messages.

so RE-READ my first post and i'll post it again here. instead of submitting ideas via the ?message command, use MessageBot.

i've created a public channel so all you have to do is pm him with:
