Maybe it's possible to see if someone enters TW for the first time, then you can have a bot giving them a lvz pop-up or something?

the reason why tw is the most popular zone is you dont have to wait 10 mins to download all the "cool" lvz to enter the zone. instead it takes like 5 seconds and you are playing....
Most other zones have a massive download time which puts newbs off. Its like why wait 5 mins to download a level for a game i might not like anyway...
The target audience of continuum is computer literate males ages 11-25. i see no need to dumb down the game which will ruin it for all the existing players. The are enough retards already playing this game if we give people instuctions in pub some of them might discover the forums :fear: Half the fun is having to work out and discover things for yourself.
continuum in its current form will die eventually. vista (juding by the latest rc) breaks continuum for a start. which will damage the population when everyone starts getting those vista pcs next year.
My arguement is we should work towards retaining and keeping existing players happy and give it a dignified death more than runing the game trying to find new players.
And you dont do that by messing with the settings. everyone has seen what happened to 17th parellel had a population of about 50 a year ago. after some newb sysop got power and decided to fuck with the settings it now it has a population of 2 gg destroy the entire playerbase.
Its far more important to retain existing players. Finding new ones should not be the main priority.Last edited by Doc Flabby; 10-25-2006, 07:34 AM.Rediscover online gaming. Get Subspace

most of the same crap allready being said and ofc you care what ppl said about your grammar your fricking noval sucked anal.
Just seperate points you want to make lil hippy annoymous gimp.
I think people are doing what they can with what they have.
We have how many posts regarding this crap and slowly when inhouse issues are done im sure they will work on appealing to others.
But for a game you dont pay for how do you expect to advertise cos i know im not dipping into my pockets.
And as a final note to my insainly shorter post than yours, continuum is an aged game now and the cumunity will carry on and players come and go and come back again.
We keep losing players due to other online games thats what happens its a 2D spaceship game and im pretty sure staff are doing all they can.

it is true my post was too long and unedited. presentation is as important as content, and i am sry if my detestable drunken grammer and lack of structure distracted you from offering any relevant response.

TW's add campaign is non-existent in effect, there's no doubt now about falling population numbers in pubs and hosted events. its time to tweak the way things work in go base, and perhaps twd and twl.
It takes too long to incorporate the casual web surfer into twd- as a business, you want to provide every last amazon-ebay drooling idiot who stumbles into a pub extremely clear instructions about how to become more involved. The number of people using the internet is going up everyday, and not everyone has the system for a lot of the modern games being released, so theres no reason why TW can’t at least maintain traffic. More detailed pub map text would probably help. I think the go base zone ads are great, but I'd like to see some different game types, like some method to just pick the terrs and sharks and have the rest automaticly, randomly added. This wouldn't be the rule of thumb, just something to mix it sometimes, perhaps a voting system for go base like in elim.
Perhaps some twd-oriented hosted events to create maybe 2 automatic twl-bid “public squads” of some sort where all are welcome, but a ladder system determines who starts on game day. If you look at squad like virus from a few years back, they were really good at gathering the masses. they also put out alot of annoying spam but they had the right idea; just get every person you can. This creates a method for talented players to participate in twl who are not on an elite squad. In general I'd like to see maxium participation in twl, which means more squads and longer playoffs, which is fine assuming the the population problem isnt that bad yet, and you have the appropriate seeding and playoff-tree.
How can you grow if people are not encouraged to participate in squad dueling. twl is for members of exclusive, guild-cult clubs where power rest in the hands of a few select captains. When it comes to choosing the select few to play, a players skill or experience often comes 2nd to simply what his nickname or style is. most people never have the opportunity to participate. some people dont even care. thats like an NFL team not wanting to get to the super bowl. The way it is now, most veteran players that are squadless feel compelled to remain that way.My father in law was telling me over Thanksgiving about this amazing bartender at some bar he frequented who could shake a martini and fill it to the rim with no leftovers and he thought it was the coolest thing he'd ever seen. I then proceeded to his home bar and made four martinis in one shaker with unfamiliar glassware and a non standard shaker and did the same thing. From that moment forward I knew he had no compunction about my cock ever being in his daughter's mouth.

You have done a great job with twd, although I'd like to see players stats kept even after they leave a squad.
Im not a programmer, but it seems like you could steal some ideas from facebook, myspace (your page looks good btw), or wikipedia and apply them towards real time stats or maybe a news feed of sorts to encourage participation. Timed games need stats recorded somewhere and a hall of fame of sorts. I'd also like to see more flexibility about lagouts or ship changes when giving out mvps/team leaders, maybe have a 2-3 ship change/lagout limit. but stats like kills and deaths should be incorporated into the way team leader and mvps are determined; why not a stats sheet like in go base, at least via website.
There should be some kind of daily or monthly achievements notebook, hopefully automated as well. On one hand its great to just be able to log and start blasting away and dieing without worrying about unwanted permanent stats, but timed pub games of best-of- 5’s offer some good stories to tell if you gave it a chance. Now i understand time and money is something that we dont always have, but there are easy inexpensive ways to improve tw and attract more followers again.
Ii know TW is not a full time thing for most people, but if your not making enough money to invest in the proper programers or what-not, then you probably need a better market strategy. I don’t know what the legal situation is as far as distribution or profiting but I bet there are bounds of ways to make money off of continuum other than selling the actual software. As far as marketing goes, that’s easy, you just need a little time, money, and energy.
It helps to be creative because it saves you money, but you should be prepared to hire professional help. hell, I could hit up DC, Baltimore, and New York over a weekend with posters and handouts, then watch zone population double over night, create an entirely new following. who am i? just someone whose played since pre-release yet im an outsider.
Now why did I bother to do that for him? Because like Noah said, he has some good ideas in there, ideas that need to be read by more people and not just tossed aside since he didn't format it clearly. I'll come back to the topic tomorrow, I need to sleep before class. My father in law was telling me over Thanksgiving about this amazing bartender at some bar he frequented who could shake a martini and fill it to the rim with no leftovers and he thought it was the coolest thing he'd ever seen. wtf do you think i said fuck face, at least i read your noval and you ask for a complete overhall of all websites so they look pretty - fuck off at least it works ARE YOU GUNNA REMAKE THEM ALL JUST so they look better together yea thought not.
then your question leads to a question about advertisement or marketing wtf you want them to charge for this game well this is what i presume not that you gave any suggestions for this. ok the one and only good thing you mentioned

Have you done this yet LOL
They should use the email address's of when players register there names to send out a monthly news email.
NOW gtfo and maybe use your real alias, or would people insult you too much
anyway pointless post how about focus on one area of improvement and dont ask questions about how to improve it give suggestions to one problem rather then a noval of intwined questions.
