To players of Subspace/Continuum:
I would just like to take the time out to thank the community for being here all these years. Through the continued supportive energy of our community, Subspace is assured to survive and thrive. Go ahead and addict your friends. Tell them I said hi. With that said, I have a few things to announce. I am currently experiencing a personal financial mountain climb. Because I am losing my parental finanical support for my last year of University (they now must help my sister, who goes to a private University which costs much more), I now face an important crossroads. Basically, I need work, and I need money. I do not yet qualifiy for federal or state financial aid, and I want to avoid as much as possible the use of any additional student loans. Between working so hard at school and being sysop here with the Subspace community since 1999, I have had no additional time. The distance between my financial needs and the dollar value of my bank account has been steadily increasing, and this inexorable trend will continue to threaten my ability to pay my bills.
Because of my current situation, I am asking the community for a personal favor. I'm sure a lot of you have connections to industry. These connections may be your own, your parent's, your friend's, or your employer's. In any case, I need you to use those connections to help find me contract software jobs. As you may or may not know, I am a well trained programmer and software architect. I am experienced in a number of important technologies. I will try to spare you the industry buzzwords, but I can tell you that I am experienced to handle a large variety of programming jobs. I would prefer that any work I do will mostly likely involve Java, JSP, Servlets, and J2EE, SQL, the Internet/E-Commerce, client/server apps, as this is my area of expertise, though I am equally capable of doing (and am eager to try) other work. I can take on most jobs, big or small, and if need be I will use the connections I have to build a team of programmers as necessary for the larger jobs. I am also very interested in work-towards-employment following my graduation from my University, with a BS in Computer Science. If you do have a lead for me, please contact me at my email address, dock@yaunet.com. I'll respond to such information on a priority basis.
